Hear me out on this, as it will take a little while. Last year when Tim Duncan signed with the spurs, one of his main reasons was because of his relationship with David Robinson and his desire to play on the same team as he. Now, with Robinson seemingly considering leaving SA this year, and most definitely being retired by the time Duncan's contract runs out, what do you think the odds are of Houston going after Duncan once he's a free agent. I've heard that he and francis and mobley are friends so that would probably work in our favor if that's true. Just wanted to throw this out and see what you all think. Because if we don't land Webber, and it looks like we don't want to, then we should still have a large amount of cap room available whenever Duncan's contract runs out. I personally would be quite happy with a lineup in the 2-3 years of PG - Francis SG - Mobley SF - Griffin PF - Taylor C - Duncan of course this is a pipe dream, but hey ------------------
I suppose that lineup would be okay. I mean, if we had to start those guys, that is. ------------------ Gascon
Hey, i was trying to be somewhat realistic. I could have put Allan Houston as SG and C-Webb at PF ------------------
That pipe dream may not be that far out of reach. Assuming we sign Taylor as expected, four of the five pieces would be in place. Tim Duncan likes Texas, and he could get a flight to the islands a lot easier from Houston. TD is a fluid player -- much better than Webber -- and will thrive in zone play. With the zone he will give the beefier Shaq fits because he has shooting touch and range. But, gee, we'd have to wait another whole YEAR! ------------------
Then we'd have to listen to critics complain about the Rockets "unemotional frontcourt". Um...I could handle that. ------------------
I don't know if this is as far fetched as you may think. If this offseason, we resign Moochie and Mo, and then maybe Dream to a one year contract. And when Walt's 5 million and the contract we signed Dream to this offseason end, we will have plenty of money to throw at Duncan. Who wou;dn't want to play with the line up that was mentioned above? ------------------
too bad Duncan's player option is not for next year, but the year after, which happens to coincide with when we give Francis his max deal. ------------------ "I always thought Hakeem was the better offensive player and DRob the better defender." Spurever Shaq would probably agree.
I don' think TD wants to play center, which is why he signed with San Antonio. ------------------ The title will come to ClutchCity once again.
The only problem with that is if we were to do that, it would put the Rockets well over the cap. Consequently, Les would be hit hard by the luxury tax the following season. I don't know if he would be willing to make that sacrifice. (I am assuming the luxury tax is administered each season. Somone correct me if that is inaccurate.) ------------------ Rockets need power forward. Mo near now. Go near Mo. You can Run from the bet, you can Rave at the bet...but you just can't hide.
The lux tax only happens after so many millions above the cap. I think its around ten million. ------------------
Yea Duncan wouldn't want to have to play center for us. Also, I don't know about his relationship with Francis or Mobley, but Malik Rose and Antonio Daniels are his 2 best friends. ------------------ http://www.nba.com/tv_programs/courtside_countdown.html?nav=ArticleList Check out play #2!
However we would have his BYC and we could sign Duncan first and then go over the cap to sign Francis. ------------------
We can sign Duncan first and then pay Steve whatever we want. It is called Bird Rights. The salary cap is irrelevent when a player has played with the team for three years. ------------------ What's a Nubian?
Do you really want to play two more years before trying to shore up the low post? A lot can happen in two years. ------------------
