There are quite a few very funny things on those messages. But there is obviously some interactions that we'er not hearing. She makes references to calls he makes and things that he says, so it's hard to know if he's messing with her head or what during the parts we don't hear.

On the other hand, she does call like 30 times in the span of a couple of hours (when there obviously hasn't been any return calls from him because 1. There wasn't any time, and 2. She continually mentions that he hasn't called her back).

My favorite parts were when she kept asking for her cat back. I don't know what it is, but I just found that very funny.

I understand that this woman is 37 years old. At first listen, I wouldn't have said this woman was more than about 22. It just seems more pathetic if she's really 37.

Ironically, I had a similar situation happen to me, except the ex-girlfriend was Jennifer Love Hewitt, of course.

    mrpaige,

Interesting reports. I will say this... I work with all of those companies listed in that "investigative report" -- we've used all those same popups (and yes, they do all those freaky things that the reporter mentions). The reporter thinks he/she's uncovered some huge scheme, but the reality is that anyone can add those popups / advertising to their site within about 3-5 minutes (just go to exitfuel.com and you can do it yourself), and they are relatively lucrative given the current advertising market. There's nothing surprising about that side of it -- the reporter is 100% wrong there.

Some of the other stuff, though, I do find a bit interesting. The fact that they registered the site pretty far back is a bit odd, as is the fake address. I wouldn't be surprised if it's all made up, but the guys did underestimate the popularity of their site -- a few days after they launched, we had discussions about hosting some of their stuff for them for a while and they seemed fairly desperate. The guy does NOT seem very bright (not surprising, as he's an aggie [IMG]).

It does look like they've now made it into a money-making venture, though, with some of their newer links.

I was going to make the point that the reporter making the site out to be a hoax lists the fact that the site's webserver is located in Jamaica, New York as evidence that it must be a hoax since a guy from Dallas wouldn't pick a web hosting company in New York.

I find that contention to be dubious. I use two different web hosts, and I have no idea where either one of them is physically located. I found the hosts through the Internet, not the Yellow Pages. And I don't have to go to their offices to set up an account.

I just went and looked up the address of the company that hosts the Houston Sports Board, and I see that they are in Ballston Lake, NY. So, it is not uncommon for Dallasites to choose New York companies for their web hosting needs.

I don't think the fake address is anything suspicious, either. (It's not actually a fake address, it's a fake telephone number. The address is simply not listed). If I set up a site that got a lot of hits and a had a lot of potential to get me harrassing phone calls or whathaveyou, I'd probably do what I could to hide that information (unfortunately for him, Mr. McElwain is listed in the phone book, so it's not as if he's that hard to find. As far as I can tell, he lives in an apartment complex in North Dallas near Carrollton).

You should drop by and visit him. Grill him on the site, find out if it's legit, and report back to us.
