So we all know about Darius Miles, the high-school wizard, picked at number three by the CLippers, a full 10 slots higher than Kobe Bryant was picked a few short years ago. And we all are beginning to hear about Eddie Curry, only a rising sophmore, who hasnt even decided yet IF he wants to go to college, but we are all drooling over him as the next possible greatest center of all time. But, now it gets even worse (in my opinion). Now, not only are we starting to look at high school juniors, but we're starting to look at kids not even in high-school yet, and on a large level. This weeks SI has a feature on Eddie Curry in the Inside the NBA section, but also sneaked in there is a little piece on Sebastian Telfair. How old is this 5'10 wizard of a future point guard...a grand total of 15 years. Thats right, hes going to be a FRESHMAN in high school, not college. Maybe it is because hes related to Stephon Marbury, but when freshman in higschool are getting drooled over as if they could take your pro team to the promised land sometime soon, you know things have changed. Im not saying this is necessarily a bad thing, but it seems to be a lot of pressure put on a kid, and we all know that a lot of them dont make it. Felipe Lopez provides the perfect example. Man, I remember hearing about this kid coming out of high school , but you didnt hear much after that. Anywa, I just think our countries obsession with prepubescent "super-kids" is getting a little out of hand. ------------------ When I die I want to go peacefully like my grandfather. I read somewhere that the NBA is looking at how they can correct this problem of drafting high schoolers. They talked about setting up a "minor league" system whereby young talent can be brought along at a reasonable pace. The CBA is sort of like that now but this plan would have the NBA teams involved, kinda like baseball and their minor league system. Something has to be done. Like you said, it is getting out of hand. ------------------ "Get up, stand up. Stand up for your right"-Bob Marley
The NBA developmental team is called the "NBA Ambassadors". If you want to keep up with them, here ya go : http://www.nba.com/ambassadors/index.html ------------------ Just shut up and post
I think if you are 18 or over u should have the right to do whatever u please. So I have no problem with kids coming right out of high school. But as for high school fishes and sophmores, I admit there is something wrong with that. ------------------
They need a minor league for sure. I'm assuming that's why no one b****es about baseball players going pro right after high school. I'm just wondering why no one b****es about tennis players and gymnists. ------------------ Going for the Rolls Royce! visit www.swirve.com
