Jarrod Saltalamacchi of the Texas Rangers has "the yips." I had never heard of this before. Apparently, as a catcher, sometimes when he throws the ball back to the pitcher, it'll bounce in front of the pitcher, or fly out to center field or the second baseman. That's really bizarre to me... being unable to control where you throw a ball. Weird, weird, weird. http://sports.espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/news/story?id=5200796 According to Wikipedia, Chuck Hayes has this affliction in his free throw shooting, too: Very curious.
Yeah, it's crazy that he has no problem beaming a throw to second but can't get it to the mound consistently. It's the only thing holding him back in AAA.
Mark Wohlers Rick Ankiel Chuck Knoblauch All guys who lost the ability to make short throws. 2 were pitchers that couldn't control them anymore, and Koblauch lost the ability to throw to 2nd. I think there was another guy that couldn't throw it to 2nd. I remember really wanting Salty from the Braves. Edit: They guy was Steve Sax per Wikipedia
