Just becaue Yao isn't going anywhere doesn't mean you tie the franchise to a sinking ship. Kareem wasn't going anywhere either, but the focus of the team shifted to the point that they had enough good players to play with and without Kareem. Morey needs to continue to get players that can play with and without Yao.
hey clutchfans say we sign hakim warrick to back-up scola 6'9 athletic and can block shots we can use landry as trade bait why not package him to the warriors.... rockets trade/ landry, cook, barry, lowry for warriors trade/ stephen jackson and speedy claxton to make salaries match..... if warriors bite it would be a steal we can use jackson as a sg until t-mac returns.... line-up brooks/claxton jackson/taylor/ t-mac rehabbing ariza/battier/budinger scola/warrick/hayes andersen/dorsey whats your thoughts on this clutchfans??
I think DD has a point about why we wont trade Yao, and I agree. If you are justifying keeping him and riding him as our #1 option for fiscal reasons, you are putting money over wins.
Keep Lowry and lose Claxton then the trade looks good. The only question is Hakim better then Landry?
A look around the league at other teams' GMs oughta be enough to make the OP appreciate Morey. I recommend starting with the Clippers/Grizzlies and move on to the Bobcats and other bottom feeders.
Please tell me you are not using the Showtime Lakers as an example of how to play without a big man. The Showtime Lakers that had arguably the greatest PG, much less one of the greatest players to ever play in Magic and a number 1 overall draft pick in James Worthy that a stupid Cavaliers team owner gave away. Let me know where we can get a Magic Johnson and I'll get on that bandwagon you're on.
thats a great question but the only way to get stephen jackson is to include landry and lowry plus we get rid of barry and cook's contract and take back speedy claxton which i think would be the only way warriors would accept... hakim warrick: 2008-09 Statistics PPG 11.6 RPG 5.00 APG 0.8 EFF + 11.60 carl landry: 2008-09 stats ppg 9.2 rpg 5.0 apg 0.6 eff 7.77 they both are good i'd hate to see landry go but warrick can bring energy off the bench as well....
I agree with the op that as of today, if our gamble is on Yao to take us to a championship we are doomed. Yao cannot win a championship without another allstar and a great player around him, we don´t have any of those. T-Mac won´t be here when Yao is back healthy if he is going to be at some point. We don´t even have two players for each position. PG Brooks/Lowry SG ? SF Battier/Ariza PF Scola/Landry C Andersen? There are too many questionmarks. Look at other teams, supouse the Spurs loose Parker, Ginobili and Duncan. They would still have this lineup. PG Hilll SG Mason/Finley SF Jefferson/Haislip PF Blair/Bonner C McDyess/Mahinmi If you think you are one of the best, you have to compare with one of the best, look at the difference.
We have 40millions payroll on the injury list and unless God comes down and play for the rockets, we are gonna suck! Tmac hasnt played for a year, his stock value is all time low thus it is impossible for Morey to trade him for equal value! Is this all Morey's fault?
and you're seein that shift leeb. look at how the team is built now: fast, athletic, run-and-gun type team. basically, morey is already in the process of building a team post-yao era. i think morey is waiting for that blockbuster trade to come along, but he's not going to make any trade. unlike most GMs, morey is on a longer leash, so he's able to wait out for the right trade, not just a big trade that garner attention but might hurt the team.
Just because you don't like players like Shane and Scola, both of whom you have been trying to convince everyone we should get rid of, doesn't mean that your argument makes any sense whatsoever. This whole "because our best player is injured, we should break up the team and get rid of the next best players" is simply stupid. Battier and Scola are not 35 and 36 years old. They both still have a good 5-7 years of good basketball in them, and they can be key pieces on a championship team (in fact, they have been key pieces on championship teams. Morey is smart. He wants to build a winner. What you are suggesting is what perennial cellar dwellars do. They panic and get rid of key players for young, athletic players "with potential" just because they are going through a difficult phase. Morey is smarter than that. Fortunately. Yao will be back and we will get a star caliber player at or close to max level. With Battier and Scola tutoring the younger players and everyone having learned to shoulder more responsibility, we can contend again in a year - and yes, we did contend this year. There is no reason to panic and break up the core of this team. Battier and Scola are part of the core, and can be and should be for years to come, no matter how much you hate on them at every opportunity.
Are we talking about the same owner who traded away the greatest Rocket of all time?? We won't trade Yao for a marginally better option, but I seriously doubt that Leslie would mire the Rockets in mediocrity with Yao albatrossed around the Rockets' neck so as long as he can lace up, as he was referred to by another post. History proves otherwise. The Rockets have always been, under Leslie Alexander, buyers in the market, meaning very much a franchise interested in constantly improving it's on court product. Yao's skill set isn't about whether he's an option #1 or option #2. Coupled with another superstar, it's whether Yao is option 1a or 1b depending on match ups. On most given nights, Yao is the best player on the floor. Nearly EVERY night, he's the best player at this position. And every time he steps on the court, he's a 7'6 match up nightmare. Understand the rarity of this commodity as a talent, not just as a fiscal one. Do you honestly see any player on the trading who's worth swapping Yao for? I don't think you are that naive.
To Morey detractors: The NBA front office is not a video game. You can't just random make deals whenever you feel like. There are only thousands of variables they have to look at in every deal. From player wishes to chemistry issues to Portland cockblocking you to getting something the other team wants. Just because you can make a trade work in the trade-checker doesn't mean it works in real life.
How about we just be a little more patient. Would we like to land a big player now? I would. But why not wait to see a team maybe have an off year, hypothetical but say Atlanta is bad for what ever reason and there is a way to get Joe Johnson at the deadline. We can afford to be patient this year. Have some faith let's wait it out. Something will happen, it's just a matter of when
damn, you want Morey to bring the best players with no money left, and you pretend that he is not smart! waw, how stupid can you be! Morey hater
Really??? Landry is good. He is a great back up PF for the Rockets. If you get Hakim Warrick, he is another Stromile Swift. I mean this guy got waived from the Grizzlies!!! He got waived from one of the worst team in the league.
Well I believe this year would be special. I think without a superstar on this team, the Rockets can play the style of the 70s. You know, the great passing, ball movement, everyone get a touch on every possession, etc. Just imagine everyone playing together without anyone stopping the ball except for maybe Von Wafer if we resign him. But imagine how nice it would be to finally see awesome teamwork that you rarely see now-a-days. It would be classic!!!
