Besides the obvious (like in a restaurant) I'm pretty clueless when it comes to tipping etiquette. What is the standard tip (if tipping is even involved) when it comes to:

    -carry out orders
-guys who dry your car at Mr. Carwash
    -waiter/waitress at a buffet
-bartender when you just get a bottle of beer (not a mixed drink)
-valet parking guy (I know you tip him, but how much?)
    -person who cuts your hair

    10-15%
    1 dollar
    1-2 dollars
    1 dollar, though that's why I start a tab.
    I guess 3-5?
    3-4? I only goto supercuts.

1 dollar per drink, unless u get mixed drinks.

If u get mixed drinks u tip 2 to 3 dollars, which then the bartender should make ur drinks with a real heavy hand thus saving u money in the long run.

What about cheap tex-mex places where the whole meal is like 5 bucks? Do I tip 50 cents? Or round up to a dollar?

you tip on carry out orders?? wait...i drove my car here. you prepared the food and put it in a bag. i don't tip fast food guys...so what's the difference?

i tip up to $5 on someone who dries off my car at a car wash.

    i tip $2 on haircuts.

As a general rule, I usually tip minimum of $2.00. Unless the service sucked...then I have no problem going 10% if it was really bad.

That's what I was getting at. (Thanks for the math lesson Max ;) )

Lower limit of 2 bucks? I guess I'm a tightwad.

The other ones that get me are the ones at restaurants where you order at a counter...and then they call your number for you to pick up your food. And there will be a tip line on the credit card receipt. :D Who am I tipping?? The guy who took my order?? The guy who cooked my food? God?

Forgot to answer my own questions.

carry out orders - usually don't unless the guy is there watching me, in which case I feel obligated to give him a buck or something...

guys who dry your car at Mr. Carwash - a buck

waiter/waitress at a buffet - usually don't. what do they do?

bartender when you just get a bottle of beer - usually a buck, unless he/she is an *******

valet parking guy - usually 2 or 3 bucks

person who cuts your hair - 3 bucks if she's cool, 1 buck if not

So, if you add your tip via credit card (like for haircuts or pizza delivery) how does the person who you're actually tipping get the money? Or do they? I wonder if people prefer cash over credit card tips or if they care one way or the other.

    -carry out orders
agreed with MadMax, no tip for them. they're doign what people at Burger King do.

-guys who dry your car at Mr. Carwash
at my car wash, the typical tip is $2 for the crew.

    -waiter/waitress at a buffet
I still give them at least 16%. They still have to carry my dishes and keep my drinks refilled.

-bartender when you just get a bottle of beer (not a mixed drink)
    wouldn't know, I don't drink

-valet parking guy (I know you tip him, but how much?)
    $1

    -person who cuts your hair
16% if it's an ok cut. up to 33% depending on how much I like the cut.

When I worked in a restaurant, they would pay out our credit card tips for the day out of the register.

A waiter is the same thing. You drove your car there (trying to figure out what difference that makes), they prepared the food and brought it to your table (although they didn't really prepare anything, they just brought it to you). The only difference being they stick around and fill up your drink afterwards. I can see tipping a carry-out person something, just not as much as a server. At a nicer place I'm sure packing all that stuff up is a pain. I hope the comparison to fast food was a joke. If you'd ever worked in a restaurant you'd see that it was.
