For all you soccer fans out there, Man United just snapped Arsenal's undefeated streak at 49 with a 2-0 win at Old Trafford. A penalty kick from Ruud van Nistelrooy, and an extra time goal from Wayne Rooney on his 19th birthday sealed the deal. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/report?id=153082&cc=5901
YES !! Was the game on Fox? I can not believe I forgot that this match was today. My company has season tickets at Old Trafford..... Rooney is the real deal, and Van Nistleroy is a stud as well. Time to get the Red Devils moving !! DD
Pun, Sorry I missed the mandatory reference? I was not being sarcastic, I am a Man U supporter and have been for years. And our parent company is in Cheadle which is a suburb or Manchester. This is MASSIVE news in the world of premeir soccer. Arsenal had gone 49 matches undefeated...the entire year last year plus the first 9 this year. It is HUGE !! DD
DaDa, at least someone else understands the importance of this. The game was only on PPV here in the US, so I followed it online. As a United supporter, hopefully this will get their season going, unfortunately, they're still 8 points behind Arsenal, but the season is still pretty young. I'm thinking that we have a better chance of winning the Champions League than the Premiership this year.
Yeah, this game was HUGE here in the UK. People have been looking forward to it for weeks.... match of the season in terms of interest and importance so far this season. Did u see how Ruud celebrated the goal? He seemed like it was the most important goal he had ever scored. Quite amusing. I like the fact that Arsenal's streak ended, the competition is good with ManU back in the running (tho still 8 points behind)...
No, Ruud's goal was on a penalty and Rooney's goal was the result of some great passes from Saha and Smith, really nothing he could do about either of them. It's vindication for him, remember last year he missed a penalty in extra time that kept the streak alive, even though it was still in the early stages. Hopefully this will kick start the season for United, they have the talent, they just need to stay healthy so the first team can actually play together, something that hasn't happened all year. Hell, they just beat Aresenal without their captain in Keano.
It was only a matter of time before the soccer fans stepped into this thread. Oh well, was good while it lasted.
DD, I wasn't saying you should've continued it. I was actually congratualted you on getting the thread back on track.
