Yonkers, I thought that, too. What is the REAL race, though? "Latino"? I don't think so.

"WELL, what kind of connotations are those, Michael?"

You know what? Oscar Nuñez was born in New Jersey of Cuban parents... yet in The Office, he is cast as a Mexican... but has a CUBAN accent? FAIL. :p

I dunno. If American Indian can be a race (they came across the strait from Asian at one point) then I don't see why Hispanic/Latino can't be a race (they migrated down from North America and also from Europe). I guess the only argument would be that the American Indian thing happened a lot longer ago (20,000 years) versus the South American thing?
I dunno. I'm not a very good student of history.

and John Cho is Korean and they cast him as a Japanese.

Craig Ferguson is Scottish and they cast him as an Englishman, which is an insult to the Scots.

And Kevin Costner is terrible and they cast him as an Englishman.

Hm, so now, in 2009, it is just now starting to dawn on people how insane political-correctness is?

The only logical end result of the form of 'thought tyranny' that is political-correctness is for every person to lie curled up in a ball, never moving or speaking, never breathing, or even opening their eyes.

What I don't understand is...why is the US the only country where the people are called Americans? We're not the only ones living in North...Central...and South America...

Shouldn't we all be...United Statians? or something like that?...yeah I know it doesn't sound as cool...but I'm just randomly thinking here...

Yonkers, do all those actors (aside from Kevin Costner, whom we all know is horrible at accents) use the wrong accent, like Oscar does?
I totally agree. I don't call anyone "American." I call my here coworkers who are born in the U.S. "United Statesians"... :D they say nothing about it anymore.

If they wanted to shorten the name to USA, or "America", then stop using "United States of America", people. Sheesh. It confuses people even more.

Did you say "we" because you were born in these here United States, too?

The only thing I'm sensative about is that you spelled sensitive wrong four times in a row.

Rule of thumb, if you don't know what you are talking about and you continue to talk, chances are you will say something stupid. ...and chances are they won't tell you and they'll walk away thinking your an ass.

If you want to know how somebody wants to be referenced ...just ask. If you don't know, then change the subject or just make a general statement.

But you are fighting a losing battle telling people that they are being too sensitive. Have you ever told your girlfriend/wife that they are being too sensitive? If so, how'd that work out for ya?

Fact of life = People are offended when you stay stupid things.

e.g. calling somebody a Mexican when you have no idea where they are from is stupid and offensive.
