Just saw this group on a replay of Late Night with Conan. First time I have ever heard or seen them. Has anyone else ever seen or heard of this group?? Their music is absolutely creepy, yet sticks in the back of your mind for hours on end. And whats with the whole Movementarian outfits that they where?? (nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah Leader!!!!) Really does make them look like some sort of cult. Anyway, just wanted to know if anyone else is as creeped out as I am.
i haven't heard them.. but i heard they were old members of tripping daisy (early/mid 90's band from dallas).
I hate it when you buy a pack of Spree candy and start downing the pieces and about half way through, your tongue starts getting all tore up from sucking on the candy, but you can't stop eating them because your in that sugar rush zone. Spree....
Holy Cow!!!!! I had never heard anything about them before, but as soon as I saw "Tripping Daisy" I had to see what they're all about. I used to catch Tripping Daisy every time they'd come through Nacogdoches....probably saw them about a dozen time in various degrees of........uhmmmm........being. Anyway, it's definitely Tim DeLaughter who sang lead for Tripping Daisy heading this group up. You go to their website (www.thepolyphonicspree.com) and their music just starts playing for you. The two songs I've heard so far aren't creepy at all......but then again, I always loved the Tripping Daisies.
They had a song in an iPod commercial (I'm thinking the same one they did on Conan) that was apparently popular. They're supposed to sound like Soft Bulletin-era Flaming Lips on record, only not as good, but the live shows are supposedly amazing. Oh, and it's The Polyphonic Spree, no 's'.
15 minutes later and I'm already in love with this band. I've always liked brooding, angst filled music like NIN.....it's rare for me to like happy music. I think this guy is the only person who makes happy music that I really like. I may try to catch them in Dallas in late December.
Pole, Creepy should be considered a relative term in that some will just consider it different. In reality, its probably not their music that creeps me out, but rather, their robs and ........I guess it would call it their "aura"???? I was serious when I said it reminded me off the Movementarians from The Simpsons. Weird.
Codell, I saw it, and it wasn't so much the song as the performance that creeped me out. I couldn't tell if they were serious or being tongue-in- cheeky about it.
Those guys play up here in Dallas all the time. I caught a bit of their set at Fry Street Fair in Denton a couple of years ago. Apparently, they're getting huge buzz over in Europe.
Do they always dress like that during their performances? Or do they dress like that always? That would be pretty creepy. Anyways, I like the song, but wasn't impressed with their performance. Sounded a bit chaotic. I like the version from the commercial better. It has gotten stuck in my head more than once, and I was wondering whose song it was until I saw this cult on Conan.
