I know there are 10 more PG posts out there, but I couldn't find a comprehensive poll, so I made one myself. If the crew is angry, lock would be fine.
I like fisher best. Because I think big game experience, winning experience and veteran leadership is what we really need. Fisher's resume looks the best with all the playoff experience.
I would be happy with Eric Snow, Derek Fisher, Carlos Arroyo, or Brent Barry. Derek Fisher would be my first choice though. He has won championships, he has played with a superstar guard and a superstar center, and he also plays good D. Out of these four Brent Barry would be my least favorite. While Barry shoots and passes well his defense leaves something to be desired. We have too many defensive holes with the present starting lineup. Howard and McGrady are not as good defensively as Cato and Mobley. With Yao occasionally getting into early foul trouble the only defensive stopper that we will have is JJ. Because of these reasons our PG must be good defensively
Agreed. We need some hard-nosed, smart, veteran leadership at point. If you're going to have a smart veteran at any position (esp w a yung team), PG is it. His shooting is a bonus.
Someone voted for Rafer Alston? Three people so far!?!? On a team that needs a ball-control, give-it-to-Yao-orTMac strategy? That's insane. He's nearly the reverse of what we want. Craziness...
Rafer "Skip 2 my lou" Alston would add the streetball dimension to our team that we are so desperately lacking now that steve and cat are gone..
Yao 23 Tmac 25 Arroyo 25 Damn.... Badass Trio for years to come. sign him to a cheap ass long term contact the 4 and the 2/3 become interchangable with those three.
Those are my thoughts. Fish and Snow seem like the most likey in terms of short term (age and veteran leadership). But in the long term goals, it should be Arroyo (and Hinrich/I wish!).
I watched alot of Utah Jazz games last season. Personally, I like Arroyo alot. He has a pretty cocky attitude for an international player, which I kind of liked. He's not an exceptional passer(who is?), but he's decent in directing the offense. He's a scoring point guard, plays like Troy Hudson in that regard. Overall, he's a pretty decent point guard, although not spectacular. Think about it, he and Lopez succeeded Stockton, and the people in Utah aren't complaining that much. His youth made him still some room to improve and he might be a very good fit for us. However, if the only thing we can offer is the MLE, I doubt the Jazz wouldn't match. They have a full $30 mil. in cap space, and there is no way we can outspend them.
