i was reading this article http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/news/story?id=4864348 about the olympic team and thought what if none of those guys (James, Wade, Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Carmelo Anthony or Dwight Howard) wanted to comeback, who do you think the next best 8 choices are to give us a chance at the gold? here's what i came up with durant roy johnson stoudemire rose kaman rondo iguodala tough to call them a gold medal winning team on paper, the main premise is i dont think the whole core comes back, which leads me to believe a large part of them don't comeback, so is there enough depth for a gold medal team?
Hard to tell who's going to be peaking 2012 but you also have to consider that they'll go for the flashy/famous personality players too for good publicity of NBA and USA. Redeem team was just as much about repairing the reputation of a-hole athletes in the US as it was about getting back the gold in a grand fashion. If they assembled a team solely to win and no repeaters of 2008, then that list looks good except for Kaman, Iggy, and maybe Amare.
thats my point about those three players, looking at the nba there isnt much depth born here, tyreke evans and brandon jennings look like they will be in the conversation, but big men? there really isnt many
I would rather see college players in the Olympics than the merger of the East and West All-Star rosters.
