hahaha Man, maybe cuz I got family in Boston. They act like they're the underdog there. Sure they dont have a $200 mil, but they're 2nd in pay roll. I'm not sure what it is this year, but it's gotta be close to $140 mil.....With that much money you can still buy a championship like the Yanks. As far as im concerned, the Yankees and Redsox are the same. It amazes me when the Redsox fans whine when the Yankees get a high profile player. People think they're the victims, but they're really not. They yanks spend about 55-60 million more than the Sox, but that doesnt mean the Sox arent big spenders themselves. It's still way more than the Mets (i think $115 mil), Astros, Angles, etc. They're just as bad as the Yankees, except they brag more, and they think they're the ****.....
In 2006, the difference between the Red Sox and Yankees payroll was $78 million - more than the difference between the Red Sox and Kansas City Royals. In fact, only the Devil Rays, Marlins, and Rockies were further away from the Red Sox than the Red Sox were from the Yankees.
you mean the same Cardinals who won the World Series? yeah they had the last laugh... theres a big difference between falling entirely out of the playoffs and barely getting in and then winning it all... nobody remembers the Astros run last year because they failed to make the playoffs. just like the Phillies every year it seems. but if Philly makes it this year, they will be remembered and so will the Mets for their collapse...
After his repeated on-field chickensh!ttery (slapping at the 1B's glove, yelling "mine" on a popup) there's no way I could root for that prima donna douche bag. Amazing player, though. Neither the Yanks nor Sox will win the WS, btw.
To be fair, I just said starting to like...and that's not anywhere close to root. Seriously though, check out www.firejoemorgan.com if you never have. They constantly bash idiot sportswriters who act like it's all A-Rod's fault for the Yankees not winning the division and for their early season struggles, even though he's having a phenomenal season.
They also bash A-Rod: ARod Says Weird Things From the AP report of yesterday's game: "We needed this win. It would have been a huge blow to lose this game, especially after last night," Alex Rodriguez said. "It was like a heavyweight battle. You had the feeling that whoever batted last would get the win." So...since the game was in New York...you were pretty sure you had it all the way, then?
I have grudgingly come around to A Rod. When the Yanks first got him I thought it was a mistake. I thought he was a curse. When the Yanks were doing well he struggled. When he was doing well, the Yanks struggled. Like I said...cursed... But he has changed my mind this year. He's still not a favorite, but I can at least respect him now.
The other side of this is that he *is* cursed. Despite his great numbers, every team he goes to improves and every team he goes to gets worse. In the case of NY, they continue to get worse each year. During his Yankees career: 2003 (Pre-A-Rod): Division Title, Lost in WS 2004: Division Title, Lost in 7 in ALCS 2005: Division Title, Lost in 5 in ALDS 2006: Division Title, Lost in 4 in ALDS 2007: Likely Wild Card, ?? We'll see, but it could keep getting worse.
Wait until this year ends. If he opts out and goes to another team, it will prove once again that all he cares about is money instead of winning. The highest paid person in baseball and 25M average salary is not good for him? This guy is a great baseball player but he is no Jordan who worths 30M per for next 10 years. I am ready to hate him once again if that ever happens.
Exactly... I hate NY as much as any Texan, but don't forget, the Mets are still in first place. One slip-up from here and this will be just another year where the Phillies barely missed. 365 days ago: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/standings?date=20060928
I would too, but I don't think it will happen. The Cleveland Indians will take it this year. They've got the best 1-2 starting pitcher combination, and a bunch of hungry, young, very talented players.
Phils up 5-1 and Mets down 8-1, both games in the 7th. Looks like the Mets' choke job will be complete. I wish I liked the Phillies so it would be more enjoyable. But it's fun watching the Mets suffer and get devoured by the media.
