Here it is. Rockets-Red and Gold team vs. Rockets-Blue with Pinstripes. Getting a little too bored, I decided to waste some time. Heres what I came up with. I took a starting 5, searched for their best all around season, as a Rocket, and put together 2 Rox teams. Now some players may of shifted to make the matchups work (much like in a real game situtation) But they pretty much stay the same. So here's your finals Red and Gold squad: All stats are per game. ppg, blks, stls, asts, rebs, FG% C-82 Moses Malone. 31.11, 1.54, .94, 1.75, 14.70, 51.87 PF-74 Rudy T. 24.51, 0.82, 1.11, 3.12, 8.96, 53.61 SF-97 Charles Barkley 19.7, .47, 1.30, 4.68, 13.51, 48.41 SG-95 Clyde Drexler 21.40, .66, 1.77, 4.40, 7.03, 50.57 PG-99 Steve Francis* 17.40, .41, 1.40, 6.15, 5.10, 44.38 1st big man off the Bench is Otis Thorpe in his finest overall year, 1st small man is Vernon Maxwell in his best year. * I really didn't want to put up Steve Francis, but looking through the Rockets history of Point guards, youd be very hard pressed to give me a finer all around season from a point guard. Blue and Pinstripes squad. ppg, blks, stls, asts, rebs, FG% C-90 Hakeem 24.33, 4.59, 2.12, 2.85, 14.01, 50.09 PF-85 Ralph Sampson 22.06, 2.05, .99, 2.73, 10.40, 50.23 SF-70 Elvin Hayes 27.51, N/A, N/A, 1.98, 16.90, 45.25 SG-78 Calvin Murphy* 25.64, 0.40, 1.47, 3.41, 2.16, 49.05 PG-91 Kenny Smith 17.69, 0.14, 1.36, 7.10, 2.09, 52.04 1st big man off the bench would be Willis, 1st little man would be Cassell. * I realize how short Calvin is, but his assists were too low, and really he had more of a shooting guard mentality. Totals PPG, ASTS, REBS Blue and Pinstripes 117.23, 18.07, 45.26 Red and Gold 114.2, 20.1, 49.3 The blue team could score quite a bit more, but the Red team was a better rebounding, and passing team. Thoughts on who would win?
Speaking of the triple towers. Here's a staggering stat. Elvin Hayes (while with the rox) twice averaged well over 17 boards a game. That from a guy who stood 6 foot 9 inches. Even in his day, he wasn't a giant.
