That John Mayer song "Daughters" is incredibly sissy-like. How can any self-respecting man sing something like that?!?

I'm sure his millions of dollars and vast array of poonanny helps him get over his lack of self-respect. At least it doesn't hurt. :D

on another musical note: i was introduced to dickey betts tonight. I know I know I am showing my ignorance right about now. But that got me to thinking about other older artist that have blown me away recently.

Two stand out: charro. When I heard her on the surreal life it just blew me away how good she is.

Next: Cowboy Jack Clement. I heard him on a public radio station and his lryics are so poetic and real.

uh, it wasn't nominated last year. the cd it is from (greatest hits) came out at the end of 2003, making it ineligible for last years grammy awards.

    ???

    Ditto what RM95 said.

But, in reality, he joins a LONG tradition of folk and pop singers doing "sissy-like" songs, most of them all the way to the bank.

Kinda reminds me of that Simpsons episode:

Jay Sherman: How do you sleep at night?
McBain: On a big pile of money with many beautiful women.

    :D

How ironic is this: doing a little research on Jack Clement I found this little bit of information:

Beyond country music, Clement produced three tracks for U2's Rattle and Hum sessions

Not that strange considering they were going through their, "Hey, look, we are SO American" phase at that point. :)

Glad to know I wasn't the only one who enjoyed it. Of course, they have been my favorite band for a long time so I'm just a little biased. I guess it just depends what appeals to you. But, for the record, I don't like their "radio" songs, in general, as much as some of the others on the albums.

I see Rush lost again. They were nominated for "O Baterista" in the "best rock instrumental" category which is the drum solo Neil Peart performed during the last few tours. It's kind of weird that the band was nominated when it is just Neil doing his drum solo. I guess it was an honor to be nominated given it was a drum solo. I still think he should have won. Instead, someone won who had the word "cow" in the song title. Sigh. So, the Grammys can BITE ME!

I also recall that Rush was nominated in a similar category for "YYZ" back in the day and we're beat out by The Police with a lamer instrumental. Excuse me...but nothing can beat out the "YYZ" instrumental. Huh? No.

The big question still remains...will Rush ever win a real award or make it to the rock n roll hall of fame? My instinct tells me they may make it to the rock n roll hall of fame 5 years after their all gone with a bunch of music people crying out "they should have been in there long ago and this is long overdue". Where were you when they were still alive? Yea, grow some balls there!

But, because all these awards shows and all the other WIMPS out in the music field continue to deny Rush is worthy of an award or recognition, it makes the Rush cult that much more stronger and tight knit. I guess a nomination is something but they deserve to win a real award.

    BAH!!!

I noticed that too... anybody know?

And what's up with the bald look for M Etheridge?

I'm glad my wife wanted to watch this and we did the split screen thing with the game. I got to watch the Rockets extend their winning streak AND see a couple of outstanding tribute performances for Ray Charles and Janis Joplin. I usually hate awards shows, but these two performances were worth catching.

Dude, normally I'd 100% agree with you, but he lost to Brian Wilson. Wilson has (for some Godforsaken reason) never won a Grammy. He deserved it.

So, your saying just because he's been in the business a while, he deserved to win but not just based on the merits of the work? Brian Wilson didn't start releasing solo stuff till 1988. Rush has been in the business since the early 70s and have gotten jack squat.

But, we all know that is not the reality of the Grammys. I'm sure that factored into how they picked them. The real fact is, since Rush is not mainstream, that they never get picked to win anything but their musical talent, longevity and success is undeniable.

I also don't believe that particular instrumental can compare with the drumwork that Neil did there on "O Baterista" but to each his own. So, give him his award because he's been in the business a while. Isn't there another award for that...called the lifetime achievement award(the Beach Boys have already won that award)? The way they were handing those awards out like candy last night...maybe they should have given Rush one as well.

Woah, woah, no way! Are you serious? That's so awesome.

Led Zep is my favorite band of all-time, and I rarely ever see them get any credit except on one of VH1's countdowns. I'm really pissed off I missed seeing them get some recognition at something as big as the Grammy's. Were Robert, Jimmy, and John Paul there? Please tell me more about it, if there's anything to tell.

Velvet Revolver won and so did Luda and Lil' Jon for Yeah, so that's great.
