I read some reviews that said this would be funny...in 1998, but not so much today. I thought they were wrong, it was enjoyable, even got some lols, had a bit more meat than JUST the stereotypes (though that was a huge chunk of the pirate). Like King of the Hill, it will take awhile for it to settle in, burn through the obvious gags, develop the characters and hit it's stride and by then it will be cancelled. We should do a poll: How many episodes run (first run) before ABC pulls it I say 6.
This show has been moved to Friday's due to poor ratings. I hope they keep it around for a second season.
it's ok. the best part so far has been that old maid cat lady who was working with them at the pet placement place. "i've never said this in my 16 years of pet placement, but let's put it in a bag and throw it in the river" "and i said 'are you already trying to come between me and my cats?' and he said 'just sign for the package lady'" i still have two episodes to get caught up on.
is it due to poor ratings? It was moved after 2 freaking episodes.. you'd think they'd give anything more of a chance than that if that was the reason..
You can watch episodes 2-6 (no pilot however ) on Hulu (via ABC streaming). I watched episode 2 last night - it had it's moments but some of the stereotypes are definitely dated. And the look of the cartoon isn't particularly good - King of the Hill wasn't state of the art animation, but the way it looked (especially the coloring) fit it's setting. There's a cheapness to the look of The Goode Family that makes it harder to like.
The timing of this thread being updated is interesting. I just happened to watch episodes 2 & 3 online last night. Not impressed but I'll try a couple more and see.
