Here's another attempt at a Congressional hearing on an important matter that will almost cetainly be torpedoed by the GOP. Now, I ask this in all seriousness to my Republican friends here... Did the administration do an OK thing by letting Saudi nationals fly out of the country? ______________ National Briefs Deutsch, Wexler seek probe into Saudi flights From Miami Herald staff and wire services Two Democratic House members from South Florida, Peter Deutsch and Robert Wexler, are calling for an investigation into how Bush administration officials allowed about 140 Saudi nationals to leave the country in the days after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. At a time when all private aviation was grounded, top officials allowed charter flights to pick up Saudis around the country and then leave for Saudi Arabia, according to reports in Vanity Fair and The Tampa Tribune. The group included some members of the royal family and some relatives of Osama bin Laden. The departures occurred as investigators learned that 15 of the 19 hijackers in the Sept. 11 attacks were from Saudi Arabia, and some Saudi officials said they feared a backlash against their citizens. Deutsch and Wexler requested the General Accounting Office to launch a formal investigation of the incident. ''It is unconscionable that the Bush administration would bypass long-standing national security measures by urging the Saudis to repatriate 140 nationals the day after the largest attack in U.S. history,'' Wexler said.
This has been discussed before, no? What's the big deal? We have to waste time on money on this when the details are readily available? If you lived in Saudi Arabia and one of your relatives bombed a mosque, I bet you would appreciate the same consideration from the Saudi government. Apparently, these Congressmen might be trying to spread disinformation, since apparently no one flew out of the country until flights resumed: http://www.snopes.com/rumors/flight.htm If Snopes can determine that, I bet their staffers can.
It isn't disinformation. It happened. And two of the Saudis spirited away were 1st cousins of Osama. Well, I'm very different from my cousins and wouldn't want to be lumped in with whatever they do; but apparently the Bin Laden boys weren't very nice guys and had been under investigation....an investigation torpedoed by the Bush family. To be fair, Clinton dragged his feet on Saudi investigations until it was too late; "too late" being when Bush the Lesser took office and completely shut down any investigations into Bin Laden and the Saudis. Carry on.
The Snopes article is not nearly definitive. It raises a lot of questions and can't answer others with cetainty that Snopes displays. All the more reason for a Congressional inquiry I should think.
i don't know how bush had time to do that since he personally flew some of those commercial jet liners in to the buildings.
Well, he parachuted out in the nick of time, ran up a side street into a waiting car, and hurried to the airport to fly out the Bin Ladens. Of course.
If there's nothing to it, then let's find out. If there is something to it, would you blow it off as a joke?
not at all...i've just seen a lot of conspiracy theories about 9/11 recently...i frame many of the posts here in that light, given those.

Who was investigating them and for what? What's your source?
Look, I'm sure there's a *very* reasonable explanation for the administration approving their exit from the country. If they would just tell us what that reason is, we wouldn't be asking so many questions (or formulating such theories).
Jewish halliburton quagmire mock posts are pretty standard in the MM arsenal, don't be surprised. If you'll recall during the Afghan war there was a similar fly out during a sham cease fire near Tora Bora when the enemy was cornered. We still don't know why that happened and how aircraft could fly in and out of an area without being engaged or even seen for that matter.
i'm thinking that among the conservatives on this board, i'm not at the top of the list of those you'd like to see...ah hem....gone.
So you believe they exited while all of the other planes were grounded, or is it you think they needed special authority to leave?
No, no, it was the Israelis! On orders from the tri-lateral commission. Bush just flew them via remote control into the towers with his Israeli minions. I'm tired of all these 9/11 conspiracy theories that everyone seems to latch onto like remorae on a shark. It is kind of funny and alarming at the same time.
