Ok, here is a little caculation I did for the all 6 games China played. Mengke Bateer game pt min pt/per FG rb rb/min 1 23 24 0.958 0.625 7 0.292 2 9 12 0.750 0.500 5 0.417 3 19 34 0.559 0.667 7 0.201 4 13 21 0.619 0.667 3 0.143 5 18 29 0.621 0.500 4 0.138 6 4 14 0.286 0.667 4 0.286 ------------------------------------------------------------ total 86 134 0.642 0.582 30 0.224 Yao Ming 1 16 18 0.889 0.625 5 0.278 2 27 38 0.715 0.800 12 0.316 3 10 26 0.385 0.714 6 0.231 4 11 23 0.478 0.667 5 0.217 5 13 34 0.382 0.667 9 0.265 6 27 26 1.04 1.00 7 0.269 ------------------------------------------------------------- total 104 165 0.630 0.745 44 0.267 Menk Bateer lead in scoring 4 times out of 6 games in limited min Menk has higher overall pt/min while Yao has higher rb/min
I don't find this particularly interesting. Bateer demonstrated that he is a good baller. But his bulk meant that he could get off more shots. On the Rocks, Yao will get open because of the NBA teammates. Plus defenses were zeroing in on Yao but Bateer went under the radar a little more. Plus Bateer didn't really get into foul trouble...maybe because of size. If I had my choice, I'd take Yao because I think he'll fit onto this team better than Bateer. Bateer is also 30+ yr/old while Yao is still a baby.
if Bateer is 30+, yao Ming could be 25 now. The age of Chinese players is a mistery. Don't dig it too much.
I would also have to believe that Menk would score more due to opposing defenses focusing more on Ming. I am impressed by the fact that Ming is shooting some ridiculous percentage from the field. I have seen in couple of games where he goes 8 for 8 etc.., you gotta like that!
Anyone care to post the FGM/FGA stats for the two: Ming and Bateer? From what I've seen, the defense has had as a goal to keep pressure on the China guards when trying to pass to Yao down low. On the flip side, whenever Bateer would post up, there was very little pressure on the guards, and more important, little hesitation to get him the ball. Besides, I fail to see how important stats are when the Rockets are more in need of a position player, somoene to complete the team, instead of a dominating stat machine. IMHO Yao is an amazing role player(if you can even call him that) that will help our team immensely. He's big, gives us some good depth at center. His shooting skills are top-notch and he has some nice post moves down low. In addition, his passing skills are amaziing, and that alone makes him important to our team.
Looks like you've got a mistake in your stats . You're showing Yao with 104 total points, but he actually had 115 total points. That works out to 0.718 pts/min for Yao. Here's the stats off the FIBA site: http://www.fiba.com/oneplanet/world/main_accstats.asp?CC=WMM&YearBegin=2002&IOCCode=CHN The discrepancy is that you're listing Yao as scoring 27 against Algeria, but he actually had 38. Here's a summary of all of Yao's games from the Rockets' site. http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Charting_Yao_At_The_Worlds-52249-34.html
if they both played the same minutes, yao would totally out class menke. Shoot he would outclass the entire goodwill game league
I got these stats from a guy off of the espn rockets board and there is one stat that REALLY stands out...check it out. Games: 6 Minutes: 160 FG's: 35/46 FG%: 76.1% FT's: 42/56 FT %: 75% Scoring avg: 19.2 pts Blks: 14 Blks avg: 2.25 Rebs: 45 Rebs per game: 7.6 Assists: 13 Asst per game: 2.16 Turnovers: 23 TO per game: 3.75 Fouls: 21 Fouls per game: 3.5 Points Per Shot: 2.24 Fg att. per game: 7.75 His points per shot is unbelieveable! The most efficient guys in the NBA like shaq and brand have pps of 1.48 or worse. I didn't even want to look at Iverson's ohh...Bradley's pps is around 1.1...
Here's the stats: Yao Ming: 76.1% FG 19.2 ppg, 7.5 rpg 2.2 apg 2.3 bpg in in 26.7 min. per game Menke Bateer: 57.1% FG 14.3 ppg, 5 rpg, 1.5 apg, 0.3 bpg in 22.3 min. per game Disguising it in "per minutes" average doesn't change the fact that Ming severely outplayed Bateer. And that doesn't take anything away from Bateer, he played well.
bateer played well but the fact, is that he doesn't get nearly the defensive attention that ming does. the gameplan is to focus on ming and limit his touches, if bateer burns you, so be it. secondly, ming drastically changes the offensive sets of the opposition just by being on the court. bateer is not a defensive presence.
