Funny you should ask that because etymological evolution of the word "tuna" goes back to the days of the ancient Greeks (thunnos), and Latin (thynnus). As a matter of fact if you look closely at both of those words, you'll understand how the tuna is also referred to as "tunny". The tuna is also classified under the genus Thunnus.
