The Infernal Affairs Trilogy bears great similarity to Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver. In the prequel Infernal Affairs 2, Ming's descent into Sam's gang was in large due to his infatuation with Sam's female lover Mary. This parallels Travis Bickle's obsession with Betsy in Taxi Driver. In Infernal Affairs 3, Ming spirals into paranoia and delusion, culminating with a mass shootout at the police station. This is also similar to the climactic shootout ending of Taxi Driver. Ming's gunshot wounds and attempted suicide are also similar. Finally, in the Directors' Cut of Infernal Affairs 3, the ending shows Ming recuperating at an asylum. A final shot of Mary appears. This emphasizes that his descent and delusion was due to his obsession with Mary.

You are confusing Infernal Affairs with it's prequel/sequel. Infernal Affairs is classic, not IA2 or IA3.

Infernal Affairs is the title, not Internal Affairs. The latter is a movie starring Richard Gere if I'm not mistaken.

Infernal Affairs is a Hong Kong crime drama/thriller that came out about 4 years ago. It was a big hit over there and even won some major awards I believe. It's available on DVD here. There's an official release that's a piece of crap and a region-free version that I got a long time ago with a ton of extras and a kickass transfer and DTS track.

It's all one story. I didn't say Infernal Affairs wasn't a classic, that's not the point.

OMG, I've probably seen "Infernal Affairs" written 20 or 30 times in the past few days, and every single time, I thought it was "Internal Affairs"

    infernal affairs > the departed.

infernal affairs had way better actors. better cinema tography.

its nice to see martin scorsece doing the remake, it speaks volumes to the quality of the original. unfortunately he chose a former pretty boy as one of his leads and a former white rapper as one of the actors. Cant stand Leo DiCraprio and marky mark

Andy Lau > Matt Damon. I have yet to see IF2 and 3...I have no idea where to get my hands on it.

Dicaprio is a good actor. Just because the teeny boppers went crazy over him doesn't make it less so. Basketball Diaries, What's Eating Gilbert Grape, Catch Me If You Can.

yea Andy Lau just made the character great. He has amazing charisma, matt damon on the other hand was okay, but he didnt make the character cool like Lau did.

Infernal Affairs had a way clever ending which was even darker than
the Departed. I dont understand why Scorsese changed that.

    Great movie.

    Ending will open your eyes.

Wahlberg was actually very good in this movie. He actually acted.

The entire cast was excellent, but DiCaprio really stood out.

Good movie but not a Best Picture imo.
Leo has come a long way. I can fully say he is one of the newer generations hopes.

However, Infernal Affairs developed a lot things better and was the better movie. I'm not sure if Scorsese was attempting some kind of different artistic approach but Infernal made you feel for the characters and each death and the ending were a lot more emotional.

Best movie I have seen in a long time.

Some of the exchanges between characters are classic!
