Poll: Dean Holds Slim New Hampshire Lead Over Kerry Tue Jan 20,10:05 PM ET By John Whitesides, Political Correspondent MANCHESTER, N.H. (Reuters) - Democrat Howard Dean (news - web sites) holds a dwindling two-point lead over Iowa caucus winner John Kerry (news - web sites) in New Hampshire one week before the state's presidential primary, according to a Reuters/MSNBC/Zogby poll released on Tuesday. Dean led Kerry 25 percent to 23 percent in the three-day tracking poll, which began on Sunday, the day before Kerry's stunning win in Iowa in the first contest in the Democratic race to pick a challenger to President Bush (news - web sites). But in Tuesday's polling, taken after the caucus results were known, Kerry actually led Dean by two percentage points after the former Vermont governor finished a distant third in Iowa. In third place was retired Gen. Wesley Clark (news - web sites) at 16 percent, with North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (news - web sites), who finished a surprise second in Iowa, and Connecticut Sen. Joseph Lieberman tied for fourth place at 7 percent. The poll found 16 percent of likely New Hampshire primary voters are still undecided ahead of the primary, with the number of undecided voters growing during the course of the three days of polling. "Clark has slid a point a day since Sunday," pollster John Zogby said. "As Dean drops, undecided jumped to 20 points on Tuesday alone." You know, I catch most of my news from the Hangout forum here. Unfortunately, if people post political news in this forum it turns into a huge argument and gets moved to the D&D and I never see it again. But thanks for the update.
Ladies and Gentlemen, the biggest sign of Howard Dean’s collapse is how his hard core of left wing extremists (the same people who screamed themselves blue in the face and worked themselves into a foaming-at-the-mouth frenzy over Dean’s anti-war rallies) have completely turned their backs on Dean in this, his moment of need. They have tossed him to the curb at the first sign of weakness. So quickly! What was once the great internet-has-revolutionized-politics movement has now morphed into a fickle crowd of bandwagoners. Dean’s bandwagon has obviously broken down and has endured irreparable damage. It goes without saying that is campaign is toast. Without his fervent crowd of professional protestors and Ivy-league elitists backing his every squawk and squeal, Dean’s message just sounds like a madman who hasn’t received his daily dose of tranquilizers. Dean’s camp has BETRAYED him. They have left him out in the shivering cold and rendered all of the effort, all of the enthusiasm, all of the vitriol – MEANINGLESS. Batman Jones is the perfect example. Batman was once the BBS’ torch bearer for the Dean campaign. He defended Dean’s craziness at every turn. He was the BEDROCK of the Dean camp, trumpeting Dean’s endorsements, trying desperately to paint Dean as a centrist, and defending attacks on Dean’s record and policies. Batman rushed to post the latest Dean polling numbers and lauded Dean’s fire and conviction. He praised Dean for his anti-war stance. He had been STEADFAST in his support for Dean. Then what happens? Oh, about 100,000 voters in Iowa determine that Dean isn’t worthy. Batman and his bandwagon of political mercenaries immediately ABANDON the Dean camp and start looking for a winner. They show they have no loyalty. They show their capricious political nature. They prove that when the going gets tough, the liberals WILT LIKE A FLOWER. What’s the flavor of the month this week, hard core liberals? Why, Kerry and Edwards of course! Wait a second, but doesn’t their voting record contradict your position on the war? Of course it does! But they are in first place and therefore we are behind them! Issues are meaningless! Meanwhile I, and my fellow conservatives had successfully predicted Dean’s imminent psychological meltdown - over and over and over again! All this time we were right! All this time, you were wrong! Dean supporters, what have you to say for yourself? YEEEEEEAAAAAAARRRRRRHHHHHH
Come now, T_J my boy. This is about the 78th sign of weakness, if all those threads of yours are to be believed. Let's be consistent.
I clarify the disputed point to say: The first sign of polling weakness within the primary process. My point stands -- What was once considered an ardent, energetic fan base with unwavering support has now been EXPOSED to be a fickle and capricious group of non-loyal bandwagoners. Judas would be proud.
There's no reason to be fully decided in January. Still plenty of time to gather the facts and change your mind.
Well, I was never a Dean supporter, but I get your point. Clearly you favor the lemingesque lockstep , tell me what to think Mr. Bush mindset so en vogue with Bush supporters. I guess it's all a matter of taste...
I think T-J has a point here- as i said in another thread, seldom has a campaign gone from Juggernaut status to also-ran so quickly. In purely political terms, it's a stunning turn of events. of course, he may yet pull out of it, but the "concession" speech was muskie-in-main-esque in it's impact on the overall campaign.
This is the lead on Dean's website... The first four paragraphs don't have the kind of zip you would expect from someone who's going to win the nomination. _____________ Two years ago, Howard Dean began this race driving down Interstate 89 to meet New Hampshire voters with a handful of brochures in his pocket and a conviction that our country can do better. By standing up to President Bush on the issues that matter -- and pressing Democrats to do the same, Howard Dean has changed the nature of this race and even of American politics. He's brought hundreds of thousands of Americans back into their democracy. He's forced a party in retreat to stand up and offer a real alternative to George W. Bush. Now the other candidates have adopted his message. That's good for our party and good for our country. This election is now about change and taking our country back. It is about the future -- about fulfilling the Promise of America for our families and kids. It's about which candidate has a proven record of delivering results not speeches. But none of them has his record of achievement. For eleven years, Howard Dean was Governor of Vermont. For eleven years, he balanced budgets and now he can show George Bush how it's done. He provided health care for nearly every child in Vermont and expanded prescription coverage for seniors. Now, he can show George Bush how it's done. He created 20% more jobs and raised the minimum wage. He invested in Vermont's children. He lowered child abuse rates and raised graduation rates. Teen pregnancy went way down; childhood immunization way up. He's done this for Vermont's children and now he can show George Bush how to do it for all of America's families and children. A doctor who's delivered health care. A governor who's delivered results. America needs change. And Americans need their country back. Howard Dean is the candidate to do it -- because he's the Governor who has. Join Governor Dean in taking action today:
Dear Ass King, First, you haven't seen me post anything pro-Dean in several weeks. The reason is that he's been sucking and I've been iffy on his candidacy. It didn't take the caucus for that to happen. And it certainly didn't take any of the dumb, dumb criticisms you posted and I destroyed in the other thread. He lost touch and I'm not stupid enough to follow him over a cliff. Yes, would that I had your loyalty! The blind lemming approach, repeating everything your idiot bosses told you about Bill White -- never mind the obvious truth in front of your face -- while touting the 'virtues' (LOL) of the single worst candidate for Houston mayor the city's ever seen... That was really something to emulate. Alas, I am a Judas... In that other thread -- the one in which I recently b**** slapped you like the foaming, rabid poodle we all know you to be, and in which you snuck away with your tail between your legs as usual -- I stated several times that my preference was that Dean would right his campaign and get me back to his camp. There's nothing I'd like better. But your version of loyalty (just like your boyfriend Boy George's) is less than nothing. And I don't envy it. I pity it. Kapaya, dork.
It's really not that shocking. The news cycle, with the advent of 24 hr news, the internet, etc., and with the corresponding contraction of attention spans, has speeded up to the point where such rises and falls are almost commonplace. Look at GWB; riding high last April, listing badly by September, rehabbed by December....he did a complete 360 in the span of 7 months; John Edwards and John Kerry's campaigns were dead in the water 5 weeks ago, now they are probably the top dark horse and the number one contender, respectively. That's the way things happen now.
Batman, how does it feel to be in bed with two Senators (Kerry and Edwards) who voted for the War in Iraq? I thought you were against this war with 'every ounce of your being'? NEO CON JONES Remember the old applause lines which you used to trumpet around here about Dean's run against Bush in November? What did you used to say? oh yeah... "It's going to be a gas!" You're right, Batman, it will be similar to gas. Methane gas. HOT AIR. YYYEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHH
Your massah's have taught you well, monkeyboy. Bait and switch worked in both Gulf Wars and in every other way Bush has 'defended' his various assaults on this great country. Why not use it on a message board? Each of your accusations has been soundly thwarted, so you pretend nothing happened and move on to a new one. I remain troubled by Kerry's and Edwards's Iraq votes and I remain convinced they were cynical votes. But I am heartened by the fact that they have seen the light and taken up Dean's message. And that is why they're doing well now where they weren't before. They might frame it differently, but it is Dean's message. That's why Dean finds himself with a difficult fight. The other major candidates now agree with his positions and to a large degree his approach. Seventy five percent of Iowa caucus goers opposed the war. Among them Kerry polled highest. Why? Because he has seen the light and is uniquely well equipped to take that fight to the draft dodging chickenhawk boy prezidunt. Incidentally, the record will show that I was spoiling for a Kerry-Bush debate long before I had any hopes of a Dean-Bush one. And, should it happen, it will indeed be a gas. Schooled again. What now? Your fellow parrot johnheath used to resort to talking about my drinking habits when he lost a series of consecutive arguments with me. Maybe try that?
Making fun of homosexuals is reprehensible. Throwing it in with cursing and name-calling is even worse. It looks like both Dean AND his supporters are really losing it.
