I think I was one of the very few people who adamantly raved about the Rockets choice of Aaron Brooks. Granted, I was kind of biased because I'm a Ducks fan, but still I had watched him play almost every game the last couple years. I know it's just summer league, but still he is dominating. Have any of you guys who absolutely hated the pick, have a change of heart?
Its still wayy too early to talk about something like that. Man look at JL3, look what he has been now?
I disliked the pick, but not b/c of anything to do with AB, but b/c of the hole at the 4. Now, I can hope and dream that AB becomes AI
Where;s the I didn't hat the pick option, and I agree it's kind of early, but he still looks promising.
You did not give the option "I told you guys to just shut up and let him play". Because that fits my bill.
Ditto. People were talking about the Brooks pick the way they talk about the Sam Bowie pick, as if Morey had already been shown to have screwed up before summer league even started. I remember some people even suggested that the moves Morey made later in the draft were done to cover for his mistake with the 26th pick, as if he was already feeling embarassed.
Crow Eating Rule #1: Don't voluntarily eat crow until someone is 1 minute away from feeding it to you. You have at least 5 months left.
Any other pick and we're most likely not days away from being gifted with Luis Scola at a bargain basement price.
i was one of the wait and see guys because i don't watch enough college basketball to know who the best players are at 26. and also because it's freaking pick 26. that's always a crapshoot at best. brooks hasn't proven anything yet, but he's atleast justifying that morey and the rockets might know a little more than we do.
I still think it was a mistake and Morey overvalued Brooks. Getting Scola helps to mitigate the damage. There have been way too many summer league heroes to start a thread like this though. Does no one remember Damn Lanky?
Aaron brooks my average 5 - 10 minutes his 1st year. Trust, the league is very different than summer league. I'm more interested in his D than O. We all know he can score but can he check the guards Morey mentioned for drafting him (i.e., Nash, Dwill, Paul, Parker, AI,). That would be BIG H*** NO. As a result, lets stop jocking him until the season is 1/2 over and he's done something in the league.
Theres only a handful of players that can stop those guards in the NBA, I really wouldnt be worried that Brooks is a bust just because he can't contain AI, Paul, or Nash.
Well I at least think he has a good chance of staying in front of them with his speed and quickness. That will at the very least make them shoot lower percentage shots instead of running by Alston's matador defense. There are some PGs that can post him up, but for the majority of them that takes them away from what they do best - create off the dribble. The guys that gave us trouble were the guys that beat us on dribble penetration. When I think point guards that can post up effectively I think BDavis and JKidd. The list is much shorter than the speedsters.
Steve Novak tore up summer league last year and got a healthy does of DNP-CDs this last year because he just wasn't ready. Maybe Brooks will be great, but it is just way too early to even get excited. I am also less impressed when PGs play well in quickly organized leagues like summer league. They have the ball in their hands on every posession and can hog if they want to. Jury hasn't even made it to court on this one.
Jose Juan Barea outplayed him for the first half last night. Brooks adjusted well, but Barea is an end-of-bench NBA player. His shooting ability makes me think that he can take JL3's spot, but we'll see.
