I can't find the other thread.

Yao's brace finally came off today. He took more jump shots today and made a good amount of them. I loved that one crazy fade-away he pulled on Z.

I think we've found the answer to Yao's shooting problems.

It's really encouraging to see him without the brace. Let's hope he will keep on shooting well.

I thought it was pretty obvious that his shooting would be better once the brace came off. I'm not sure why more people didn't pinpoint that as the problem, though I did see a few mention it.

either way, it's nice to see him with it off. seems like it helped his blocking too.

I'll give him a couple games before I proclaim the "Return of Yao," but I'm sure the brace's removal has increased his mobility and likely had a mental impact as well.

We're rooting for you, tall dude!

Well I would not say that the minutes think hampered his rebounding. Check out Mutombo's minutes and rebound total (22 minutes and 9 rebounds).

Simple put - Yao is still not a good rebounder especially defensive rebounding but I hope and like to believe that it will improve with time. His rebounding skills is still poor though.

Well actually Yao's defensive rebounding number is not too far behind Mutombo's...

2004-05 Regular Season Defensive Rebounds per 48 Min:
    ...
    ...
    18. Chris Webber 9.7
    18. Dwight Howard 9.7
    20. Dikembe Mutombo 9.5
    21. Yao Ming 9.2

    22. Tony Battie 9.1
    22. Mehmet Okur 9.1
    ...
    ...

This isn't true. Skill-wise, Yao is a good rebounder. Occasionally he will get tired and lazy, but for the most part he is always constantly blocking out his man.

He is not a great rebounder, though, as mentioned. The problem is his athleticism, though. Most often, the other teams PF will be somewhat free and sky in for a rebound.

yeah he'll be on the other side or he'll get a sneaky little push or shove. That's why we need a power forward to help rebound in the future..I guess Howard and Mo are okay for now..

So, if you grab a rebound and then fumble it away, does it still count as a rebound? ;)

    Yao is a decent rebounder.
Mutombo is one of the greatest rebounders of all time.
(Led the NBA in total rebounds in 1994-95 and 1996-97 and 2000-01.)

    That is the difference.

It is a rebound if your team gets the fumbled ball.

It is a rebound and a turnover if the other team gets the fumbled ball. :p

By the way, if a player has an offensive foul, does it count as a personal foul and a turnover?
