is mostly gray. Ain't no silver lining, no brighter day... The Top 10 Highest State Income Taxes: All Obama Blue States Hawaii: 11% (income over $400,000 (couple), $200,000 (single)) Oregon: 11% (income over $500,000 (couple), $250,000 (single)) California: 10.55% (income over $1 million) Rhode Island: 9.9% (income over $373,650) Iowa: 8.98% (income over $64,261) New Jersey 8.97% (income over $500,000) New York: 8.97% (income over $500,000) Vermont: 8.95% (income over $373,650) Maine: 8.5% (income over $39,549 (couple), $19,749 (single)) Washington, D.C.: 8.5% (income over $40,000)
so you're saying those states with the highest income taxes (mostly on the wealthy) voted democrat in the last election? that's an oustanding observation. now if you tell me that states who voted for obama had bigger labor union population, i'd never ever ever believe you.
I wouldn't say its I popping that people who believe in big-government also believe in high taxation. Those seem to go hand in hand. Is New Jersey an Obama state? as of yesterday Christie has a higher approval rating in New Jersey then Obama: Poll was by Quinnipac
You're half right. Liberals who believe in big-government also believe in high taxation because they think programs should be paid for (and mostly by those who have the most money). Conservatives who believe in big-government (like every Republican who voted for Medicare Part D) do not believe in high taxation. They just believe deficits don't matter (as long as their party is in power).
Lets play a game. Lets list (conveniently from your same freaking link) the states that recieve federal funding per dollar of taxes paid. 1. D.C. ($6.17) 2. North Dakota ($2.03) 3. New Mexico ($1.89) 4. Mississippi ($1.84) 5. Alaska ($1.82) 6. West Virginia ($1.74) 7. Montana ($1.64) 8. Alabama ($1.61) 9. South Dakota ($1.59) 10. Arkansas ($1.53) Outside of DC which isnt a state and is a unique anomaly and New Mexico, I find it interesting that the states that apparently are so nice about taxes paid in, take in so much funding.

Top 5 states I like: (1) Washington (2) Oregon (3) Maine (4) Alaska (5) Hawaii All blue states, I think! OMG!
That (described in detail in Qazi's post) kind of blows up the idea that high tax rates destroy economic growth.
I just read your post on the other thread about the Hawley-Smoot Tarrif Act destroying the economy because it was high tax rate and not because it where the taxes were coming from. Justify yourself sir.
