Either I'm too stupid to find the 80-post Arena Wins thread, or everyone else thought the win was too obvious to post about. So, I'm either being redundant or unnecessary.

But I wanted a thread where I can talk about the arena win.

First, thanks to Jeff and everyone else who worked harder to get the arena than I did.

Second, I'm very glad the arena passed. What would I do if the Rockets moved? I don't know if it was actually a wise economic decision, but I'm too addicted to worry about that. I'm surprised it passed so overwhelmingly.

Third, for all those people who said Houston voters are so stupid for not voting for it a year ago, that we don't know what's good for us, that it was our last shot, and we weren't going to get a better deal, plus we are the sorriest fan city in the universe and every other way in which you can put down your fellow citizen (this is including Dale Robertson and the entire sports editorial staff at the Chronicle, in addition to quite a few posters around here who will remain unnamed): We don't look quite as stupid now, do we? We did get another vote on it; by all accounts it was a better deal; and it's support went way up, not down like all the naysayers predicted. A congratulations and a thank you to Harris County voters, including and perhaps especially those out in Kingwood, for not only keeping my Rockets in town, but also forcing a better deal out of Les Alexander!

I'm excited that the arena deal passed, but I can't help wondering what kind of political opposition we would have gotten if it hadn't been an election year. As I've said before, politicians will do whatever it takes to get reelected.

RR, I'm citing Authority on this one: everyone who I have ever heard compare this deal and the last deal said this one was better. I don't concern myself with why. You can ask Jeff.

Hot, if Bettencourt wasn't on the ballot, I'm sure we'd have heard a lot more out of him. That's just another reason why No-voters last year did the right thing since this particular opponent couldn't put up as much of a fight this go round. Not that they thought that far ahead.
