Did anyone Watch the Update of this Movie on A&E It was not bad. I am somewhat impressed I still am partial to the Original and it is kind of like OUTBREAK but still a good effort Rocket River
yeah ofcourse but that the whole point. This was an updated version during todays time (or "near future") not the 60's. Many plot points of the original cannot work during todays time because of the technology and the political climate,so they went in a totally different way. I view this kinda like a sequel because the plot was changed so much but it was really cool because they used so many scenes from the original book (just making them mean different things) I read the book as a teen, saw the movie (1971) several years later (I did not know it existed), and I loved this movie. I think people who know the original story really well will like this one as a fun movie. I am a huge Michael Crichton fan (welp I guess here goes a full blown review)and much of his great writing involves subtly (in the original "Wildfire" was protected by its remote location and because it looks like nothing with security slowly increasing the closer you get) but this cannot be translated into most movies. Another theme is human putting a "perfect" system into practical use. In the book "wildfire" was still under construction thus being unable to stop the self destruct. (just like JP had the electric fence obviously added later in the book, and human intervention was the guy selling the embryo) These types of themes were in this movie, and it was nice. It was like a total redo and I bet MC liked it very much except the EcoFriendly aspect.
I caught parts of it. The parts I saw got my interest. I'd sit down and watch the whole thing if I had the time. I suppose that's what weekends are for.
I DVR'd it, but looking at the upcoming showings, it seems it will be playing all week, so it wasn't really needed for me to record it. I will watch it tonight probably.
I did the same. I really like the first one, but the production quality of this new one looks first rate. I look forward to watching it.
I DVRed it as well, but I have a question. A&E was showing it in two forms (at least on my guide) - it showed up in a 2 hour block and a 4 hour block. How long is this movie? I recorded both versions to make sure I got the complete thing!
I think it was in two 2 hour blocks, and the 4 hour was all in one shot. Yes Part I was Monday, Part II was last night - followed by a full run at 10pm.
I thought it was horrible. They turned a classic 60's film into a Sci-Fi Channel movie of the week. The dialogue was laughable at times, the characters were wooden, and all the added cardboard cut-out stock political intrigue plot crap simply detracted from the story arc. IMO, they butchered a great, concise, focused, well paced story.
I watched it. I want my four hours back. Maybe I can use that worm hole to get back my four hours? lol
I think you first two statements can possibly conflict. I agree with the second one. It was a really fun movie for fans of the story. It answers the question of what if TAS was set in todays time (or "near future"). I also thought the fighting of the NSA, .mil etc sucked but otherwise there could be no communications dropout explanation (if you remember in the book the reason was the early fax machines bell was broken)
