The market is lack of PGs this year and Rocket has a lot of them. Clipper, Heat and some other teams are crying for PGs. So what is next?
I don't know anything about Butler, but we will definitely need a rebounder to get the second unit running.
I've been wondering... How exactly do we trade Alston for picks under the CBA? What about contracts matching (or being within 25%)? Do the picks equate to some specificified dollar amount or something?
Head, Rafer, Lucas those three have to go... we have way too many people as is and those 3 are dead weight at this point. Thats still leaves us with like 16-17 roster spots who else can we cut to get to 12.
I think we'll be fine if it's possible to keep all the guards. Now if have to trade to make room and ABSOLUTELY have to do it? Then yea trade Rafer for Haslem.
alston is almost the opposite of sf3. sf3 is a high turnover guy and alston is a very low turnover guy. It seems you put sf3 at the 2 and leave the dribbling to alston. If we can keep Rafer from shooting often he is the guy for the 1. SF3 makes a good backup 2 because he gets to the ft line almost as much as Yao.
Rack up the draft picks to keep this team rolling into the future the right and safe way! I can't imagine us ever being able to fill all our holes and add an entire bench in one off season ever again with such little money to work with. Morey has already won the GM of the year award before the season has started.
Um...no. Francis could poentially be a bad fit in Adelman's system, think he is Stevie Franchise again, or take us back to dribblemania. Scola could pull a V-Span, not be all that good, and cry about it. Mike James can easily turn into "I'm Mike James....beyatch!" and Arron Brooks might be this years JLIII. I like all the moves so far, and you have to be excited about the depth this team has added, but let's hand out awards at the end of next season, not before it starts. You definitely have to hand it to Moreyball that he is being very active. Tim Purpura should be taking notes...
I'd love to get either Collison or Haslem though that might be a stretch.. PG-Francis-James-Brooks SG-McGrady-Wells-Snyder SF-Battier-Wells-Novak PF-Collison-Scola-Hayes C-Yao-Mutumbo-Butler WOW
I do think we are crowning this guy a little prematurely, but you have to say all his moves have been low risk with potential high rewards. If his moves pay off, he will rightfully receive the genius crown. For Purpura to make a splash he is going to have to take a hell of a risk by trading Lidge or Oswalt and getting his idiot owner to buy off on it.
Alston can dribble in a reasonable amount of time, make entry passes, passes to players coming off of screens perfectly, and can lead a fast break. I think Alston has value as well as Francis. I don't see why we can't keep all three of Alston, James, and Francis while Alston, James, Francis, and Tmac rotate at the 1 and 2 positions as well as when Tmac plays the 3.
Well said.I'm liking the look of next year's team, but there are no guarantees that these moves will work out. I like the signing Steve Francis because it's another low risk, high reward move on Morey's part. If he doesn't fit, it's not like we'll be strapped as a result.
A good post.I think James and Bonzi should play together as the starting 1 and 2 with T-Mac at the 3 as well.
I like your optimism. The glass is half empty. Obviously we all know nothing is guaranteed. If a team on paper won the league the Suns should be defending 2 time champions in my book. I just think considering we went into the off season with only a late first round draft pick and a MLE to work with you have to step back and say "Wow!" You just don't see this much movement and talent acquisition from a team that already has 2 max contracts and isn't going to blow up the salary cap. Just ask Kobe Bryant how hard it is to add talent and depth with little money to work with. Every single move we made doesn't have to work out for us to be a much improved team.
But you have left out Luther Head. Right now Alston, James (who can be traded in a 1 out deal) or Head really has to go. They all have decent trade value and their isn't PT for them. If Francis or Brooks really plays well, potentially 2 of the above 3 could be traded. Collison or Haslem or Ike or Shel Williams at the high end, Brian Cook or Donyell or Battie at the low end (plus those teams 1st rounders), those are the kinds of guys I would try to get. Somebody we know can give us 15+ quality NBA PF minutes.
