I had a dish the other day that I want to learn to make for the holidays. Carrot souffle. So good.

The way my mom makes it, yes. It's overly tart in my opinion and the skins on the cranberries are nasty.

That is what I was thinking, it does not sound too good. I will take the canned variety also and if anybody in my family tries to make it I will turn my nose up to it.

Green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, cornbread dressing with giblet gravy. Thanksgiving's my favorite holiday, and the sides are a big part of that.

I might be the only person in the country that thinks green bean cASSerole is nasty. I've never liked that crap. I like to keep green beans simple.

Chop a few slices of bacon into small pieces and render some of the fat out of the bacon. Toss in some chopped up onion and garlic and sautee until the onion is translucent and soft. Toss in FRESh green beans, salt and pepper, and sautee until the green beans are slightly soft, but still have some crunch.

It tastes 10x better than green bean casserole, plus it's a lot healthier, even with the bacon.

This is the recipe I used for green beans last year. Everyone loves it, and it is simple as hell.

Heat 2-3 Tbsp. olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.

    Add frozen green beans.
Sprinkle vigorously with garlic powder, salt and pepper. Allow the beans to brown just a hair. Then remove and serve.

The secret is the high heat, and putting more seasoning on than you would normally. Spices don't stick to green beans very well, so you really can't over-season them.

I had a recipe for this cream corned casserole that was unbelievable. Gonna try a Pumpkin-Bread Pudding this year for dessert, hopefully it'll work out.

Does it have Rotel tomatoes and chiles in it? My mom makes a cream corned casserole w/ the aforementioned in it, and the recipe is called "Mexican Corn".

    Very good.

OMG. I was coming here to post a thread just like this, and I see that FFB already has. The fact that me and Jim are starting to think alike has me worried. ;)

The best side dish by far at my family's thanksgiving and Christmas are my Dad's twice baked potato. They are simply amazing. He makes about 4 for each person there because we all fight over them.

Stuffing. My family could get rid of everything else and just have piles of stuffing and I would be perfectly content. I like to pour gravy on it, but it isn't necessary.

A tasty and very simple side/dessert:
    1 box pistachio pudding/pie filling
1 large tub of cool whip
    1 small can of pineapple
some mini marshmallows and chopped nuts to taste
Hand mix all that up in a big bowl and serve, a zillion calories of deliciousness.

Yeah man green bean casserole is foul. At least all the homemade plus store bought ones i have had. Anything with canned beans is gross.

I like garlic mashed potatoes, wild rice pilaf, buttermilk biscuits, and pumpkin pie.

Sad thing is my parents always have an ethnic thanksgiving so I've only had a real thanksgiving once. :(
