jvg did something with positive result... i'm not talking about he finally played vspan. (although great to see it's finally happening) i'm talking about the complaints he made to the officials re. their treatment of yao. it finally worked. they finally realised, i hope, that if you call yao a foul every time an offender runs into him you should at least call it on the other side when they put hands and arms and bodies on yao relentlessly. the two games after jvg complained and got fined, yao had 20 and 16 ft attempts, respectively. and the 9 games before that? he had on average 8.11 fta/g, ranging anywhere from 4 to 13. i hope this is a trend rather than one time thing. i don't mind them calling fouls but call them fairly.
I really dont know whether the last two games were due to JVG's comments I hope so..so that this trend continues I think we need a bigger sample size to determine the correlation I mean in the last two games...Yao was getting hacked like crazy so its not that the refs did any favours for him..they just called the 60% of the calls as oppose to 40%
agree with the sample size. but i do hope this is a trend. i remember last night against the knicks, there were a couple of occassions when the defender bumped yao, however slight, he did get the call. i was so happy to see that.
I'm glad he's getting calls, and I think JVG's complaints had something to do with it. But, I think it's a shame that the refs respond to criticism like that, if they have. If they are, then this effect will probably fade in a week or two and we'll be back to the non-calls.
