I was really hoping Tejada would play third, especially after hearing Everett wasn't in the deal. But he's not only not in the deal, he's flat out been let go. Was the injury and hopes of a full recovery more grim than we thought? (and thank you to Carlos Lee for causing the injury in the first place, with your occasional lack of hustle)

If not, this perplexes me a little as it goes against Wade's current philosophy of emphasizing speed and defense...unless maybe this was more of a Drayton move than anything. But then again, maybe Tejada isn't that bad on defense and it's not like we would need him to help compensate for Biggio's diminishing range, now with Matsui there.

Still, I'm gonna miss Everett's defense. He made IMPOSSIBLE plays look routine. That type of defense is rare to find. Hopefully, we haven't seen the last of him in MLB.

Hard to justify blaming all the offensive problems on our #8 hitter when half the lineup isn't getting it done.

Oh well, good luck to Adam Everett. Shame people think they need a Jeter numbers at the shortstop position.

Or, maybe "IF" Tejada is at short, we are up 3-0 coming into that game because he actually did something with his bat.

Your "IF" scenario was short-sighted to say the least.

I don't think there is any question that Tejada is, was and will be the better SS considering Everett's putrid offensive abilities.

"IF" Everett was even a decent hitter, then he would be one of the most sought after shortstops in the league.

He isn't though and never will be.

Does it even matter how good or bad we are next season?

The AL is gonna clean up shop.

Tigers, Red Sox or Indians will eat up whoever wins the NL.

i wish we could have kept him as a backup that we could put in late in games to take over defensively.

can we still resign him for cheap? i understand we didnt offer him arby, which was the right call, but could we resign him for like $1m? or are we not allowed to deal with him at all?

First of all, winning a pennant wouldn't be so bad. ;) Second, once you get to the playoffs, it's essentially luck. The 2006 Tigers were incredibly better than the 2006 Cardinals... look at the result. In baseball, if you can get to the playoffs, anything can happen. It's a very random game from that point forward.

Oh, give me a f'in break.

I could also say, "if Tejada was at short, we'd have lost games 5-4 in the series due to letting more balls get through."

The point, which most people with half a brain can get, is that Everett's defense was important to this team, and that Tejada, on his best day, could not have ever made that play (nor could most shortstops for that matter).

Again, this is not me saying I don't like the trade, but that Everett was a special player with the glove and I'll miss watching that.

AE was probably my favorite player on our team, and I'm sad to see him go. But I'm very happy for him that he got a new starting position so quickly. His work at SS is an art form.

Its too bad some Astros fans are showing little class and taking backhanded swipes at a guy, a former Astro, who was non-tendered and was nothing but a class-act while here who always played his hardest. He was a guy that ran out every pop fly or ground ball. He was always looked at as a clubhouse leader, and a leader in the infield in helping everyone get aligned correctly. He didn't do anything to warrant some of the mean-spirited comments. I wish him the best of luck. I hope he gets his well-deserved gold glove that he never got while in Houston.

And boy, where there a lot of pop flies and ground balls to run out!

Just kidding; I was a huge AE fan and I'll miss the slick glovework, too.

Everett has had the best glove in baseball for the past few years. If his injury really slowed him down, that's a shame. If letting him go was a decision made to appease the fans' thirst for "exciting" baseball, that's a bigger shame.

Unless Adam's range has significantly declined, this move was a huge mistake. There's no question that Tejada is an overall improvement over Everett, but I seriously doubt it's enough of an improvement to give the 'stros a serious shot at a title.

I am sad that the Adam Everett era is over in Houston. He has been my favorite player outside Biggio in recent years. I hope he finally gets that Gold Glove he deserves in the AL, no matter how stupid it makes our management look.

    Adam E + Matsui + MT :(

AE would have actually been able to hide in that kinda infield. I don't get it, when we have the guys who can hit and make up for his lack of power we drop him.

I was at that game when he broke his ****. I agree with some of the others here, I won't miss those 3 easy outs at the end of the lineup.
