No shame here. We were the best of the NL this year. We kinda choked in the WS, but thats ok. After the horrendous road start this year, I thought it was all over, but at least we got a chance. Thats all we can ask for. The White Sox seem like a classy organization, and am happy for them. At least the Cubs fans are still pissed.
Thank you Astros. It was such an incredible run, and I will never forget all the great moments that turned this season into something magical. You took the next step and gave Houston a pennant for the 1st time in franchise history. But now it's time for a WS title. This is a plea to the organization to improve this club and lead us back to the promised land. With this current group of veterans and youngsters, I think the door is open for one more season...just more season before we truly have to say goodbye to the original Killer Bee era. So go out in style! 2004: NLDS Winners 2005: NL Champs 2006: WS Champs I BEELIEVE AND ALWAYS WILL!
I really don't want to see the Astros depend on young players again next year, this team needs good experienced players. We got to admit this team overachieved big time this year with that ugly lineup they had. When you think about it, it really is a miracle that they made it this far. If I were St. Louis I would be really pissed because they were obviously the best team in the NL and maybe in the majors as well. This was supposed to be their year. However, the Astros may never get another chance like this anytime soon, they had to take advantage of their luck. It is really difficult to go back to the world series right away just ask the Yankees, Red Sox, and Cardinals.
I have no comment on the Astros. However, I would like to remind everyone of how stupid the Chronicle is, mainly Richard inJustice. I clearly remember the tombstone they had printed right on the front page of the sports section. I don't like the Astros (not since Imbeceli blew it), but you don't just freaking give up on a team just like that - not if you're a true fan. It was embarrassing that the city's own paper would do that. So much for that article now, eh dip****s.
How come Hunsicker gets no credit for this team? Isnt this the team he built and basically handed over to Tim who did nuthing at all and lost Kent (rbi man) last fall. He didnt sign anybody or bring on anybody new so basically it was the same team as last yr minus Beltran/Kent.
Yeah but he stuck with that team rather than trading Burke, Lane and many of the players most of us wanted gone.
I cringe at the possibility what Drayton may do in the offseason. Think about it he probably believes that he saved a bunch money this year doing nothing and they went to the WS, he might will do the same next year and start adding players from A and AA to the Astros roster to save more money.
I have never been more proud of my Astros than I am at this moment! THANKS FOR A GREAT SEASON! 2006 IS OURS!!!!!!
great thread, actually read my mind. I just completed a blog thanking them for the season, so here is my entry: Thanks Astros.... for giving me a team to follow towards the end of the season in which nobody believed in for making this city as energized as it has since the days of the Rockets Championship years for having exciting games to witness, from Eric Bruntlett's walkoff winning RBI single I witness in the 13th inning at MMP in September, Chris Burke's walkoff homer to elminate the Braves, Lance Berkman's 3 run homer in Game 5 of the NLCS, to Jason Lane catching the last out of the NLCS to clinch our first World Series for putting this team on the map, and having teams like the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Marlins, Phillies, Giants, and other big market teams sit at home to WATCH US try to win it all for having the great times at work, to cheer with my friends/coworkers to each victory, and suck up the ones you lost for having that championship thrill back in the city, as I witness hundreds of other fans standing outside of Academy waiting to purchase your NL Champs gear for turning my girlfriend into a sports geek and last but not least, for never giving up, even though our own Houston Chronicle printed a tombstone saying the season was over Congrads to the White Sox, they were the better team. All four games could have gone our way, it just was not our year. On to next year in which we should be a year more expierenced and hungier to win it all. Hopefully Roger Clemens comes back, and we can add to what we have now. Its going to be a long off season, but the 2004 season will be one to remember. Bring on the Rockets Season, because its going to be a good one to witness and remember.
This was not the year I expected them to get to the WS. Heck, after the first month, I didn't expect them to make the playoffs. And after the first couple months, I just didn't want them to finish below the Rockies. Thanks Astros.
Over the past two years, the Astros have really thrown off the ghosts of the past and shown that they can finally be a regular contender. This is good for a number of reasons. -They can attract free agents now in ways they couldn't before. Look at the Rockets. Coming to Houston is not all about money, it's about being part of a winning orginization. -Uncle Drayton will probably spend a bit more than he does now, because getting to the WS has got to be a rush. It's more than a business to him now, I'm sure. Not only that, he had to make a mint off of the merchandising this offseason. -Home field advantage. The Astros finally have some crowds that know how to bring the enthusiasm, the last two games not withstanding. -National love. On Sportscenter, we were the #5 pick to win the World Series next year, and that's with a big question mark on Clemens' return. That's love, especially considering the uber-east-coastness of the media. I certainly enjoyed this year. Not as much as the run last year, but the playoffs were so much more exciting...and making it to the WS... there hasn't been this much excitement for sports in Houston since the Rox made it 10 years ago. Thanks, 'Stros.
No matter how PO'd I am, I stil love the Astros...A great year which I wish would have ended differently, but you know, we won the NL and we got to the WS and no one can take that away from us...
WHAT A RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!! I will always be grateful for the 2005 Astros season. For anyone b****ing and moaning, your Houston Astros are the National League Champions for the first time EVER!! Over a dozen other National League teams aren't the champions--just our Houston Astros. And, the comparison to Bum's Oilers is flawed--they *didn't* "kick the sumbitch in"--they never made the Superbowl. But your Astros just played in the World Series. Houston was on baseball's biggest stage, with the roof open and all, and gave the same showing in wildly similar circumstances that the Cardinals did last year. Kudos, Houston Astros, and thanks.
Thank you astros for giving us memories that will be instilled into our brains for life. Thank for you giving a city back it's hope and making them beleive again even though most left us for dead. You brought an entire city together, and thats more than I can ever ask for. For all the bandwagon fans, I hope these past couple years have turned you into true astros fans. This is what baseball is about...tradition, honor, and hard work. For 2 classy organizations, both deserving of a title, I thank you.
thanks for bringing the world series to houston for the first time and putting the city in a frenzy.... we got bitter sweet taste of being there and now we will drive on experience and win the whole thing. as mcgrady says....we will be back.
