I abhor texting now. I feel the same way about it the way I used to email. That it's a great feature, but people use it the wrong way.

It used to be that any appointment is just a 1-2 minute phone call away. Now it's 10+ texts away, assuming everything goes to plan. I think I've once texted 20 times on an issue that could've been resolved in a minute direct dialogue. Yet nobody wants to talk on the phone nowadays. They prefer to just text.

And the worst part is? If I don't respond to a text quickly enough, some actually call me and wonder if something's wrong. As if it's rude if I don't keep up my text-response.

How are you a talk person since when someone calls for you, they get "no_answer"
I agree with phone tag. I hate it.

In my experiences I've had as much issues with text tag. People making themselves unavailable when convenient for themselves. "Stood up" factor comes in bigger with texting. Though I'm convinced I just know the wrong kind of people, not gonna blame it on texting. The people who want full-on vocal replacement.

Its give and take with all the communication technologies. I'll have my sister who I've known for life text me "Happy Birthday". I'll call her back to wish her a Happy Birthday, no answer. But then I'll have relatives who I dont normally talk to send me a Happy Birthday message in Facebook.

    Oh well, I'm just a whiny b**** I guess.

Wow. I've got 600 minutes and I'm probably dropping to 300. If I talk, it's at night, and doesn't count against them. Haven't cracked 300 since Ike.

I like texts solely for the fact that I can respond at my leisure, especially when I'm trying to come up with a witty retort. That silence doesn't translate so well in a phone call.

That and I've hated talking on the phone ever since I was a kid.

I don't like texting either. Since nobody I know likes talking, I finally broke down and got a text messaging plan last September.

Depending on who I'm talking to and the situation.
Naw Ide rather talk than text. Especially if its someone who I'm interested in and he is sharing the same interest.
But when I'm not available to talk. I.E. in class or a meeting I'll text.

I hate my coworkers who wait for the ringing to stop so they can text me back. Bastards!

    This.

I'm just an awkward person on the phone, don't know why but I hate talking to someone when I can't see them.

    Texting ftw.

It's much faster to talk. It's much easier to tell 10 people the same thing on text. It's much easier to lie on text... I don't text as much because I would rather TELL the person what I mean, with tone of voice and diction and so on, so forth.

    NO. WAY.

Tell me something I don't know.

I think we all know your Interweb and texting skills surpass the talking skills, sir.

When you text, you can delete... you don't have to say "uhhh... uhhh, ummm... uhhh... [what was I thinking?]..." when you talk, you don't have that luxury.

Me too. I think I have more roll over minutes expiring every month than I use from talking on the phone.

So its kinda looking like its either a person doesnt do much talking in real life, they might put more into texting than they'd vocalize. With a few over-indulging in texting.

Or its people who dont like the usual tedious phone talking and rambling conversating over nothing, texting condenses it to short convenient messages and gets the same thing done.

I get too much of the first. The "iPhone = Active Social Life" bad examples. The kind that you call or text to (no not to "talk", for something purely task oriented) and they dont answer. But you sign onto Facebook 5 minutes later and see they just sent an iPhone message there probably a minute after you tried to get a hold of them. For me texting has been a jackass illuminator, but its about the texting tool itself, not the "tools" who use it.

I have unlimited text messages. So I tend to use that most of the time.

Text for sure. I only talk If it's important or it's family out of town. You get to kind of think a little longer on your response. Just don't like to sit on the phone much and babble about nothing or feel obligated to stay on the phone longer. My bill would be insane without unlimited text, i text somewhere between 4 and 8 thousand times a month. My phone is almost always in my hand, the little lady doesn't like it so much :p

I have never sent a text.

My friends with older kids say texting beats calling. It cuts all the BS and 'negotiating' that comes with a voice call.

I hate texting. When someone texts me I call them back and open by saying, "you just cost me 10 cents."

But, I don't really talk on the phone much either. I mostly communicate by asking my wife for the rundown of all the conversations she had that day.

Disabled texting because I don't use it. Call me or message me online, either way I'll get back to you when I have time.
