At least the work laws do. I'm pretty pissed. My employer still hasn't payed me for the first of the month. He has it posted that we get paid twice a month. I called Texas Workforce Commission and they are in clear violation of the law. The thing is, if I file a complaint, I can get fired and there is nothing I can do about it because Texas is a "Fire at Will" state. Your employer does not need a reason to fire you. So here I am broke and screwed etc. So I would rather have a job than not while I'm looking for another but this is bull****. It's Workers' Revolution Time!!!!!!!!
when did you start? it usually takes a month to get your first paycheck when it's paid out twice a month. and isn't the payroll automated?
man, i'm sorry you're going through that Meowgi. what kind of work do you do?? what kind of job would you be looking for if you were forced to do so?
I've never understood why it's OK for employers to fire you with no warning, yet if you leave a job with no warning to take another one, it's considered rude.
Let me get this straight...you haven't been paid in a month and your allowed no sick time at all regardless of if your sick or not? Tell Adolf Hitler he is supposed to be dead. What do you do for a vacation...take a lunch break?
I see a lot of people knock unions on this site, the fact that employers don't need a reason to fire is a direct result of the pro business attitude in this state.
How long have you worked there, Meowgi? Are you the only one that hasn't got paid? Last year, there was a glitch in the payroll system (like the one on Office Space) that caused several people to not get paid. Our payday is Friday and these people didn't get paid until the following Tuesday. My company offered to loan them $300 cash to get them through the weekend.
It's highly unusual, but employers can screw up that way. It happened to me once while going to college. The employer was very embarrassed, and paid for a couple of checks that bounced due to her negligence.
I have been here 8 months. It's been days late before but not this bad. They don't have the money to make payroll. Nobody has been paid. PLus there was a "glitch" last paycheck where nobody got thier overtime and it was supposed to be attached to this paycheck that never came. They are waiting to get paid themselves by our clients (supposedly). We just moved and his other excuse is that he had to pay for stuff to the owner of the new building that he thought the owner was going to take care of, but he will be reimbursed blah blah blah. So I don't know what good filing a complaint would do anyways when they don't have the money. Who knows when it will come in. I doubt they will make payroll for next Monday too. And yeah I'm about to hit him up for SOMETHING, but he could fire me because he doesn't want to deal with it. But at least I'm a team player, right?
Maybe the company is out of money and can not afford payroll......I would tell him you are upset and need to be paid, and when he can pay you, you will come back to work,,,, and then leave. DD
They definitely don't have money. I have thought about that but I would never get paid for the days that I miss, plus he could just fire me.
You could also keep working and never get paid period. If they aren't paying me, I'm not showing up. Them's the breaks. I'd be looking for something else immediately. What kind of work do you do?
