If you are tired of the status quo, the only choice is Richard "Kinky" Friedman. Why? Rick Perry is an embarassing failure. Carolle Strayhorn is a flip-flopping Republican running as an independent. Chris Bell has lost so many recent elections that he is damaged goods. It's time to break the cycle of the "same-old, same-old", and electing Kinky is the best way to do it.
ditto I don't know either, I always have voted Republican, but now I don't trust either party. Is there a constitutional conservative social ethical responsible honest candidate I am not aware of?
Kinky Friedman is neither Republican nor Democrat. He wants to pay teachers in public schools more and focus on developing sources of renewable energy. He's not being bribed by PACs and lobbying groups. ...and he is neither Democrat nor Republican.
Perry did everything Delay told him to do. A vote for Perry is a vote for the worst of machine politics since Tammany Hall. I would probably go with Bell, though I'd much rather have a Republican claiming to be independent than a Republican who does what he is told. But then, I live in AZ and don't really have a clue.
Didnt' Bell win a Houston City council seat lose Houston mayor win US House seat lose US House seat anything I'm missing? I am sure of it !
It was Lee Brown's Second term I believe. It came down to Brown v. Orlando Sanchez with Bell coming in a distant third.
Yup. Chris Brown is the Democrat's Orlando Sanchez, except that Brown has actually won an election or two.
I really don't have a dog in this hunt, with one caveat... vote for whoever appeals to you, as long as his name isn't Rick Perry. The man is as corrupt a Governor as Texas has seen in decades. He has helped destroy the spirit of bipartisanship that was a hallmark of Executive/Legislature relations when Bush was governor. He encouraged the redistricting effort by DeLay that created chaos and harm to the government and people of Texas. He is a creature of the ultra-right, charter school group that he has helped have influence in Texas far beyond their numbers, despite charter schools being a flop, except for a small number of exceptions. He's the major proponent of toll roads in Texas, giving sweetheart land-grab deals to European companies who will be collecting tolls from Texans for decades after the highways have been built, as they make a killing off of the land given for their construction, similar to the way the railroads in the 19th century made a killing from the millions and millions of acres of land given to them to build trans-continental lines. Just pick up a local newspaper and read about it. One could go on at length. I don't care who you vote for, as long as it isn't Rick Perry. Taxes slashed, while teachers can't pay their bills. State employees laid off, and then rehired after it's discovered that they were actually needed, and that private companies who had contributed to the Governor and the Legislature couldn't do the job. Programs like C.H.I.P.S., giving health care to poor children, slashed and deliberately made difficult to use by those in need, to discourage signing up for aid. Programs for the elderly slashed, for the homeless. Why? So he could claim he balanced the budget without raising taxes. Texas ranks at or near the bottom in just about every category of health and human services, while not getting millions and millions of federal matching funds, our own tax dollars, due to gross incompetence. Throwing the baby out with the bath water. Do Texans really want to be compared unfavorably with the health and human services funding of Mississippi?? Vote for who you like... like the Kinkster's wit? Fine. Want someone with deep experience in state government, along with her flaws, who is a former school teacher who cares about education and understands how state government works? Vote for Carol yada-yada Strayhorn. Want to vote for a Democrat with no chance, but a good man? Vote for Chris Bell. Just don't vote for Rick Perry. Do some research... the truth about him is worse than what I mentioned. Keep D&D Civil.
I don't like Bell either -- in fact I think he's a total zero -- but this is a silly line of reasoning. Don't vote for him because he's lost before? No Worries has it right. He's won as many elections as he's lost. And I'm pretty sure he lost his seat in Congress due to Delay's redistricting. If Kinky loses this election, he'll have a lower batting average than Bell wrt winning elections. For all my slagging, I'd probably vote for Kinky if I was registered in Texas. But your posts here as to why to do it are nothing but negative sloganeering. Saying why we should vote FOR Kinky rather than just against the others would be more persuasive -- particularly when the negative slogans you've chosen are so tepid.
