No. It has three portions now, but I think they are all graded on a 200-800 scale. (At least that's what I remember from my brother taking it.)

34,000 but I know for a fact I can't use some of those in a sentence.

I was surprised that they reported data compared to SAT scores, and said they needed more data but hadn't asked me about my SAT score. Maybe this was why.

30,100 for me. Interesting indeed. As an engineer, I feel like that's a pretty decent number, but it definitely makes me want to start reading more.

    Wow I feel stupid. 21,700

As a matter of fact, I have felt my English levels dumbing down further and further. Living 5 years in South America having to constantly speak Spanish all day will do that to you. I need to begin reading again.

Then doesn't that defeat the purpose? Do you really "know" a word if you can't use it?

32,900 for me. I was hoping for a billion, but will have to maintain a life of devastation as I move forward with my not-quite 33k.

37,700. I've never even seen some of those words nor have I used many of those words outside of school or trivial games before.

Engineer or not, that's an awesome score.

    My number is 19,000.
One of my options was "English as a Second Language" and "from a non-English-speaking country."

Got here in 1987, spoke English starting at age 12.

Makes me feel good about myself.

    30,800.

I've always considered myself a sort of layman wordsmith. I need to bone up on the little used words.

Honestly, some of these fancy words aren't worth knowing. There's definitely a law of diminishing returns at work here.

It is not asking if you could put the word into a sentence; it is asking if you know at least one definition.

 If you knew a definition of a word -- or even just the main gist of it -- wouldn't you be able to use it in a sentence?

It might not be grammatically correct.

    I'm 17.

Damn it, I'm taking a SAT prep course now too. I should have known most of those words!

I think everyone should read something from Ayn Rand.

Ok, I did it again, and this time I got 15900.

I think I better stop reading this thread now, because if I don't I probably drunkenly ring up my high school English teacher demanding a refund..
