Can someone explain why the tennis pairings differ for the men and the women?

If the 4 top seeds make the semi-finals, the women do it normally; #1 plays #4 and #2 plays #3, however the men do it where #1 plays #3 and #2 plays #4.

Any reason?

I didn't realize they did that, it seems a little weird. I have no idea-- where is SirJC at he'll know-----
