Here's Zinni's comments on Chalabi and his crew way back in 2000. Pretty remarkable foresight- “I don't think the military adventures that they're seeking for us to fund are reasonable ... They're going to lead us to a Bay of Goats, or something like that.” -- General Anthony Zinni, commander of US forces in the Persian Gulf, on requests for military assistance from Iraqi opponents of Saddam Hussein.
Which is why you don't go to war unless you bloody well have to, DD. (are we really 230 miles from Mexico?? Damn! )
War is a violent, horrific manifestation of simmering hatred, and it should only be used as a last resort, in self-defense. Otherwise, you're just being a dick.
Hmmm... I'd have to disagree with you. Long ago wars were based on hatred and prejudice (religious and racial differences).... Then wars were about territorialism (land ownership, boundaries, and conquering)..... But modern war is more about economic and financial power and marketplace control. Socially speaking on a global scale, one of the positive aspects of globalization is that people are more aware and tolerant of each other than we used to be. Hate is diminishing. -- droxford
I'd disagree with most of these statements in general, but specifically about hate. There's little evidence to support this statement, and a lot to contradict it.
uhmm, isn't this rather the point of the admin's iRaq policy, and the whol WOT? to not just talk tough, but to back it up?
...emphasis on the words "global scale" globally, our population has skyrocketed over the past two or three centuries. Though we continue to have the struggles mentioned above, they don't dominate our populous as they used to, making them a smaller factor percentage-wise than they used to be. -- droxford
