I reinstalled a new OS on my buddies comp. But, after I reinstalled it, i found out that i didn't have any of the drivers. I asked him if he had any disks and he doesn't have any of the right disks with the drivers on them.

Now I have a computer with no graphics, sound drivers. Is there any way I can d/l a program that can find out what drivers I need.

the computer has Windows me, 1000 mhz.

if you can get on the internet you can DL them.

Who's the manufacturer? go to their website

if it's a custom system go to the hardware mfgr for the components.

Open the computer case, you should find the model or part number on the chips.

But if you going to install Win Me, it's gonna be piece of trash anyway.

The graphics card is part of the motherboard but the sound card is in a pci slot.

I can't figure out who the manufacturer is.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to figure out what kind it is.

    Thanks

What OS did you install? Usually Windows XP and 2000 detect the hardware automatically and install the appropriate driver and that's often crucial when most of your components are onboard. I would go to the motherboard manifacturer's site and see what I can find there.

not to discourage you but buddy, how dared you open a computer if you do not have the basic knowledge of 1. reading chip model from components 2. reading computer model from the back of the computer or some other places on the computer case?

look for a plate or sticker on the bottom or back of the case...it will have serial numbers and if you are lucky..model number.

then HP should have a way of looking up the specs and showing you the downloadable drivers for it.

in case you have not fixed it. go to hp.com
click support section, choose HP Vectra. and you should see a link which let hp determine what your machine model is. just follow that link and you'll be allright.
