For some reason my computer is taking like 5 minutes after boot up for my computer to recognize my internet connection. before it was pretty immediate I am not on a wireless connection...this just recently started happening.... Anyone have any ideas as to why it might be taking longer? Did I install something that might delay it...or maybe I have to many apps loading in the bootup which might cause the delay? though i dont have much that pre loads so i dont think thats it.
In addition to what DD said, if you're on Windows, you just may have a ton of Startup applications. Shut a lot of them down. A bunch of them could also by spyware; it might help to get rid of it. Anything to save on startup time. Also, when you reset your router and cable modem, make sure you plug the modem in FIRST. Wait about 30 seconds, THEN plug in the router. Just in case. If you're on a Mac, check to see if your computer has a self-assigned IP address. You do this by going to the Apple menu (top left of your screen) > System Preferences > Network. From there, you should be able to see what's going on.
Start your PC in safe mode with networking: Right after your PC turns on, tap the F8 button a few times, until you see the startup menu. You will see safe mode with networking as one of your options. When it boots up, note the time it takes for the connection to come up. If it comes up quicker, you most likely have too many startup apps that are creating lag at startup. Assuming you have XP, it is important to note that XP creates the illusion thatyour PC is booting up faster by loading your video drivers before everything else is ready to go. Therefore, your XP may still be loading apps and services while you see your desktop. To clear your startups, click start - run - type in msconfig - and go to the startup tab.
What other computers/consoles/cableboxes/etc. do you have connected to the ROUTER/SWITCH/MODEM? Are those taking as much time as the PC? What lights are blinking on the connection device?
Looks like you have some funny startup application. Probably it's because those things take too long to load and preventing internet being connect. Possibly one of them waiting for internet and timed out eventually.
I forgot to mention on my post above: disable your AntiVirus program or the updating programs just before the Internet connection check.
