A few years ago back when I was with ATT/SBC I had to purchase a 2WIRE ATT DSL Router...

Anyways, I still have it, rarely used in great condition.

I'm now going to get Verizon's high speed DSL and it comes with a free DSL Router. The reason Im going to Verizon, is because the cable internet/router I have now doesnt give off a STRONG wireless signal all the time. It fluctuates speeds often. I can look at the signal strength on my laptop and it can go from 3 green bars, to 1 red bar at nothing. When I'm watching a movie or playing on Xbox live, it disconnects.

So I'm hoping if I don't like Verizon's DSL router, can I just use the one I have from ATT? Will it work? On the front of the ATT router it says "Exclusively for ATT High Speed Internet".

The problem is that Verizon will be looking for the MAC address of their own modem. If they do allow you to use your own modem, you will have to call them and provide the MAC Address.

You may have to change some of the settings on the AT&T modem. I would connect the Verizon modem first, and look at the default settings. Do a screen shot and use the same settings for the AT&T modem.

I used to work for an outsourcer that did the support for AT&T's DSL customer self-install dept, several years ago.

Most of the DSL stuff is very fuzzy, so I could be way off base. :)

Yeah - the hardware is physically capable of doing what you want it to do, but the service providers are gonna have them configured specifically to only connect to their servers, their servers are gonna specifically be looking for the mac address (or other identifying qualities) of those routers, etc. etc...

so, no... I'm afraid it ain't gonna work. Like I said, the hardware is there, but they've got 'em configured so that they're not interchangeable.

You better off getting yourself a Dlink or Linksysk router.
