I know they are scheduled to practice sometime this summer for Beijing but will it be in vegas or a tour similar to before?

If it is gonna be an open camp in Vegas with tickets I am planning my vacation around it.

    Anyone know?

Do the rest of you guys find it hard to care about USA Olympic basketball?

Maybe it's not having any Rockets represented because I remember being excited to watch the Dream Team (II?) because Dream was playing and we had just won titles. A very different experience than watching Shane Battier fit in.

But then I'm glad I'm not interested because that would mean T-Mac is playing. I'd prefer our fragile stars not play over the summer. Hell, they can barely play in the spring. Lets keep the bulls out of our vagina cabinet.

No frankly I am very interested. It allows me to root for players other than rockets and not feel guilty. Plus after watching us get smoked 4 years ago I want revenge and highly respect the dedication from Kobe and others.

I can't help but think that if we lose to anyone else in the world at basketball it's because of laziness or a lack of seriousness, not being overmatched. It's an American game so of course we should win.

This makes it less fun to think its not really much of a competition, but at the same time it sets kind of an unfair expectation of blowing out every team except the ones with multiple NBA players. The fact that we don't always says to me some things about the work ethic and pride of our NBA elites (on average, not all of them). Not something I want to wear on my sleeve.

but the rules and refs are so different it is much harder to adapt. Plus these national teams we are playing have been together for so long its quite hard to just dominate them.

    I think its awesome.

Has there ever been talk about doing it kind of like MLB, and alternate the rules (DH or pitcher bats) based on... something?

I would be soooo interested to see just how crafty coughTOUGHcough the new generation of overseas basketball talent is playing the rules that the world champions play.

Why are the rules different in the first place? Is it the metrics? Why the hell is the international lane a rhombus?

Right now with the playoffs hot and heavy, especially with the Rockets win last night, I couldn't care less about USA basketball.

Try me a week before their first game.

Overall, I will be more disengaged from these Olympic games than ever before.

for me, it's always fun to watch international games. you can tell most of the players are so into it. i remember carlos arroyo was so emotional after beating US that one time. never seen him like that in nba games. i get nervous before chinese games. it's more than just a game, i guess it's about your country too. if the american players are really into it, they wouldn't have lost so many games. but if you are paid that much already, i don't know how motivated can you get.

Isn't that thought depressing and undermining the spirit of the Olympics?

It seems odd that a player could give a crap over a grueling 82+ game schedule and not for something as relatively abbreviated as the Olympics. Maybe the NBA season is really too long and tiring.

I wonder what T-Mac honestly thinks of the Olympics and why.

ya season is bad for motivation. but some players, like kobe, always bring everything to the game. back when professionals were allowed in the olympics, players were much more motivated.

i have no idea who change the rules, but i do know that NBA can change its rules year-by-year. For example the no zones to the current 3 sec violation.

And why the NBA wants to play at a different set of rules? The rest of the world is playing with 1 rule, and NBA plays with the other.

    1. What the Olympic team has become saddens me. We should be beating these teams with our style (I know its their rules, so what) not catering to their standards. We have to beat them the American way like Dream Teams of the past.

    2. Coach K? Seriously? He has no experience nor business coaching pro athletes. Whereas a guy like Rudy has no nothing else to do, won the last gold medal, and managed to get a bronze with a bunch of guys he found at 24hr fitness.

They have begun to change. They required 3 years from all members this time. This team will dominate and play as a team.
