Since it looks like James will be singed for most, and probably all of our MLE, i figured to get the early jump on what our next biggest bargaining chip is really worth. a 4.2 million TE plus 100K meaning that we can offer a 6 year deal with 12.5% yearly increases with a starting salary of 4.3 million if we were to do a sign and trade with a team.

That translates out to a 6 year 35 million or so. Not a huge contract but maybe enough to snag a big man like Drew Gooden who could be a nice little weapon off the bench or some other big man like Wilcox that could maybe grow into Juwans spot with some time cause i just dont see Hayes maning the 4 full time.

Did Wilcox decline an offer of 6-year/42M from Seattle?

And he has only 29 above average games in his whole career.

Gooden does eat up glass for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And he's got decent offensive post game. Don't know about his jumper though.

I thought the raises for re-signing your own players was maxed out at 10.5% not 12.5%?

The raise is 10.5% and the player being SnT'd must have full Bird Rights available to the team trading him. (Mike James only has Early Bird Rights). Assuming full BR's, a 6 year deal totals out at $32.57M.

And since both Wilcox and Gooden are restricted, what's in it for SEA or CLE?

Well 6 years $33 million might be something that Bonzi might consider.

I guess more than anything, is i worry Juwan can't play play all the minutes at the 4 and i'd like to have another option besides chuck hayes. Howard is definately slowing down and i'd like to have a more viable prospect behind him. I think the 4 is our weakest position by far.

Maybe. But he's coming off of an $8M contract. Here's a list of what other SG's make...

    Ricky Davis 6.3M, Maggette 7.0M / Mobley 7.7M / Ruben Patterson 7.8M, Bobby Simmons 8.6M, Larry Hughes 11.2M, Michael Redd 13.2M.

I'm just not seeing the Kings letting him go for $4.3M since they have full Bird Rights.

Yeah the thing is we would have to give up something like Luther plus 1st round pick or something like that probably if not more even IF Bonzi demanded he was going to Houston.

I watched the one game against the Clipps when Wilcox had a huge game and I also saw a bunch of Sonics games after he was traded and I must say from what i saw this guy was nasty. Each game he was a monster on the glass and on D, and seemed to continue to attack the rim a la Amare Stoudamire style. He could be reaching some of his untapped potential, but what worries me about this guy is that all of this came during a contract year, so it will make you wonder if he will continue to give the effort once he gets his new contract. I think the comparisons to Swift are way off. The only similarities to two have is their both athletic and been called busts their entire careers but Swift is a twig who seems to have some serious ADD issues during games while wilcox is more like a tree trunk with aggression and tenacity. I think his game would be a perfect fit to our team but aquiring him is unlikely as he is a restricted FA and we have no other really valuable trade assests to swing a S&T with Seattle.

This thread is over-looking the possibility of teams interested in trading their players for the TE in order to dump salary. Surely there are teams out there interested in doing that. I don't know how many worth having are in the TE range though.

You're still not getting the concept. If Mike James signs for our TE, the Rockets have only a MLE. That's best case.

If you were Joe and Gavin Maloof and Bonzi's agent calls and says he going to Houston for their MLE, what would you say to him? Go ahead. But if you don't want to play for us, and you want to make more than MLE $, we own your full Bird Rights and can SnT you anywhere for up to a max contract. Want us to field offers we find acceptable? If the answer isn't "Yes", Wells will fire his agent on the spot.

Bonzi for the MLE is a pipe dream and we don't have players the Kings want. Let go of this one.

    Gater,

How do you feel about Wilcox? Would he be worth the MLE and would he be tempted to come here for the MLE with the makeup of our team and most importantly, would he fit?

I think Wilcox actually has a better chance of living up to his contract than Stro. Before he was traded, when Elton Brand was injured, Wilcox really seemed to be coming on, rebounding and blocking shots. Could we get the same thing from Lonny Baxter? Is CW worth the MLE?
