So I guess it starts tomorrow, Friday 08/06/04. I was wondering what was the catch? Dont you have to spend $100+, or maybe it's tax free for anything less than $100??? Or maybe that catch was just for one particular store? I can't seem to remember. Please refresh me. I'm going deal hunting tomorrow.
I think it's just for necessity type stuff like clothes, school supplies, etc. I could be wrong. If I am, let me know because my roommate and I are going to go buy a grill at Academy.
Oh and heres a list of avaible tax free items. http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxpubs/tx98_490/tx98_490.html
http://www.window.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxpubs/tx98_490/tx98_490.html This tells you what you can and cant buy.
Please answer these questions: 1) Is an article of clothing w/ price over $100 Tax Free? 2) If your entire purchase is over $100 but consist of only clothing items that are less than $100 each, will your entire purchase be tax free? Thanks!
1) No if it is more than $100 it doesn't qualify 2) Yes, Each item under $100, no matter how much you spend total, qualifies
Let me see, save $20-30 and fight the rush and madness that is 'Tax Free Weekend,' or spend the extra $20-30 on taxes and not stress myself out.
I really don't understand why everybody goes nuts over this. Taxes are what, 8%? You don't see people going shopping like maniacs everytime a store has a 10% off sale, do you?
The point is that you try and find items on sale for 30% OFF, AND get the extra 8.25% for Tax Free! Not just save 8.25% for tax, it wouldnt be worth the hassle. Im going early on Friday to avoid the weekend madness.
I have noticed in recent years, though, that several stores have sales that coincide with tax free weekend. While I wouldn't go crazy myself over it, the savings are often more than just the tax over the weekend because of these sales. EDIT: Gummi said basically the same thing while I was writing out my response.
This is true. I got a post card in the mail from the GAP saying 25% off anything this weekend. Add the tax free discuento and its not a bad deal. Stores now know people are bargain hunting, so they will have to put extra stuff on sale.
Depends where you go. Its supposed to be only sales of under $100. Many stores get around this limitation by ringing things up multiple times. For instance I have purchased wool slacks and some dress shoes that were over each. The store just broke the price up over multiple sales. If you want to buy something the merchant will be pretty accomidating so long as the item type qualifies.
Dude, I'm all over this... I think there is a $100 limit on shoes, but basically everything else is free game...
Did anybody get the email saying that the Rockets shop tax free also and will have an additional 10% off? Wonder if that includes jerseys, if so, TMac jersey here I come!!!
BTW, call up home depot and ask when the new models of grillmasters, or whatever one y'all like come out. Ask them to be specific. I did this in February, I believe. Anyway, go into home depot the week before they come out. You will be amazed at how cheap "last years" models will be. I got a $500 grill for $200 bucks! Trust me, it works.
