also, according to gangland, they are the largest prison gang in Texas at 14k members. I'm pretty sure TS is well over 20k. There are a lot of inaccuracies on gangland.
Yeah, I'm getting the Astros star with the Houston skyline tattooed on my arm, and one of the tattoo artist said I was going to get shot. I laughed.
you`re actually there. i only watched a tv show. i`m taking your word on this. they also talked about a rivalry between the crips and the houtones. is this true?
Gangland has been pretty on point so far. I don't know about the numbers, but gangland is correct in saying Tango Blast is the largest. That is 100% correct. That's because anyone can join and to do so, all you have to do is just say your a member, maybe get a tattoo! Getting into the Texas Syndicate or Mexican Mafia is a little bit more tricky to say the least.
no they haven't. but if you think they have been on point...they said Tango Blast is 14k strong. "As of 2000, some minority reports claim the Texas Syndicate had about 19,000 members in prisons and jails state-wide with more on the outside...." also, you don't just declare your membership. first, you have to be chicano. no mexican immigrants, blacks, whites, asians etc... and you have to join IN PRISON. not in the free world, not in county jail. plus you have to get beat up by your 'homies'. units have leaders. wings of units have leaders. the operations outside have leaders and they do discipline internally. what's that??? rules. organization. discipline. all of which Gangland said they didnt have.
well...one of the members himself did say there were no rules, except one...so maybe rules isn't the right word to use
also, from wiki: "Although often referred to as a prison gang, Tango Blast is different than traditional prison gangs such as Mexikanemi and the Texas Syndicate, lacking the typically strict hierarchy of those organizations.[7] Those structured organizations are better referred to as Security Threat Groups.[8] There is no consistent pathway for initiation into a Tango; rather, each individual set of Tango members determines who it admits and by what methods.[9][10] One initiation method is called a "Cora Check" or a test of heart in which the potential member must engage in physical combat with 2 or more members, provided that he does not surrender during the melee he is inducted to the gang. [11] Members are not required to perform gang activity when released from prison, making Tangos more popular among younger people." so there's some structure, but its very loose
You say they're on point, but then you contradict what they said in the video. They said that you can't join unless you have done (a certain amount of) time. And that you have to get jumped in.
I never said I watched the episode. I'm going by what you guys are saying. Someone said that GL claimed Tango Blast is the largest, it is. If you don't think so, you just don't know what your talking about. I thought my sarcasm was obvious in regards to just saying "I'm now in Tango Blast." But, it not that much harder. A "jump in" that last about a minute, is nothing in prison. I've personally seen black and white members of Tango Blast. There aren't many, but when Tangos say they will take anybody, they mean it. That is their strength, numbers. Rules- What rules? Organization- Their "leaders" are elected. That's even if a Unit has one. Discipline- What discipline? By whom and what for, because without rules, there isn't a reason for discipline. I've worked for TDCJ for four years and still have many friends that work for them. My brother in law is an actual member of Tango Blast and a close relative is a member of one of the strongest prison gangs in Texas.
I haven't watched the episode, just going off of what you guys are saying. They may have made many errors, I just don't know and I'm not going to watch it because they aren't going to tell me what I already know. They are on point on the issues that have been brought up in this thread however. The guidelines vary from unit to unit because there is no set standards to go by. Each unit does what they want. If they decide to elect a leader, they do. If they decide you have to be jumped in, you do. If they decide you have to have six toes on one foot, well...
This is all I heard in that clip, NSFW Spoiler <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ovMN-eGUn_A?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ovMN-eGUn_A?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
