So sad. Metallica used to be one of the best. Then they changed direction and became horrible. I was fooled into buying Load and they fooled me again and I forked out money for Reload. Thankfully I learned my lesson and didn't waste my money on St. Anger.
listen to St. Anger again... it's not bad. there aren't any guitar solos, and the drums are too loud, but if you actually listen to it, it's not bad. this new song sounds good too man! i'm pumped to hear a new record by them, and not have to listen to bob rock destroy it. dude that song is awesome!
I didn't know they got rid of Bob Rock. I never really felt like he was the source of any of their problems, but it will be interesting to hear an album without his influence.
Well, I just listened to that audience recording of the new song, and I must say, if Bob Rock was having much influence before, I don't know where because that song sounded very much like what was on the St. Anger album.
i've listened to that album numerous times, and i've never gotten over what a POS it is. hell, just looking at this setlist tells me they feel the same way.
exactly. i'm hoping for the best from this new album. please don't disappoint again Metallica. when Megadeth put out "The System Has Failed" i was blown away. that album was hard and fast. i'm crossing my fingers Metallica will follow suit.
I didn't like St. Anger at all, either. I thought it sounded like a bunch of noise. A lot of people gave up after the Black album. I think it was Load which actually made me lose interest. I would still see them in concert, though, for the older stuff but I saw them on Master of Puppets and Black tours so I think I've had my fill. I choose to remember those times. I'm always interested to see what their new album sounds like, though. I'll definitely download this tonite for the MoP.
I basically worshipped Metallica as a kid. I'm fairly certain they're way done, though. I'm interested to see what the superproducer comes up with, but I'm not holding out much hope. They're still quite the live act.
RMT, No offense dude, but whenever one of these threads comes up about GnR or Metallica - or basically any commercially succesful rock band, you go off on them. WTF else are they supposed to do? They made it & they're caught up in the machine. Should they sell off everything, give all the $$$ to charity, and start playing gigs at Rudyard's? I remember reading a chapter in the Motley Crue book "The Dirt" (great book even if you don't like the band) about bands & the corporate rock machine. Doesn't look like bands have much of a choice in opting out of the system...
I agree, but RMT is entitled to his opinion. "The Dirt" was a really fun read, one of my favorite books probably. I remember watching VH1's documentary about the Crue reforming for their most recent tour. The decision to reform the Crue was made in some office in LA, with no one in the band present. No one even knew if Mick Mars was still alive. I've long been jaded about the "corporate rock machine," but that blew my mind.
