Yep. It doesn't exactly give you Flash on an i-device. From what I've read, Skyfire has servers that convert flash to video and then routes that video to the same webpage via proxy. So you can see flash video via conversion process. But flash games are still out.

Still, I don't miss it enough to care on my iPhone or iPad.

Thanks for all the information guys. I have repped where I can. I guess I need to start looking at iPad 2s before it is too late. :)

Two daughters, only 10 and 12, desperately want some type of portable computing. Any solid recommendations on sources for used or discounted products... and then specific products? Thanks. I don't think they are ready for new stuff quite yet....

I actually got one for my my wife for her birthday too and it's a huge hit. (But she didn't have an airbook and iphone and an Ipod and an I touch)

I would think the best feature for kids computing would be 'find my I-thing' cause kids lose stuff.

If you can get your hand on the HP Touchpad go for that.

woot.com is awesome for refurbished laptops, etc. I actually wouldn't recommend the Touchpad for young children, because there's a great lack of apps, therefore not much to do with it out of the box, and the engineering was incredibly bad; there are some very specific weak points that can cause cracking of the plastic housing near the speaker ports if it's not handled carefully, and there's obviously no warranty for faulty parts.

Personally, this might be the one place I'd recommend a ChinaDroid; one of the cheap, knockoff Android tablets that can be found for around $130 or so. Sure, it's probably going to be slow and of poor quality, but I'm assuming you just want them for traveling/home quiet time anyway, so why not get something that you're not going to feel bad about when it gets dropped?

If you're willing and able to sink $500 into an iPad, get that. I personally think it's insane to do so for kids, but there is no question it's the class leader by a mile in terms of build quality and ease of use. I'd also hesitate with the Kindle Fire, because it's sure to require you to set up one click ordering with an Amazon account, even to get free apps/free eBooks, and I personally wouldn't trust someone so young with a blank check to spend. The Android Market should only require a google account, while the GetJar market is pretty much made up of only free apps.

OK, I have decided that I am going to go with the iPad 2.

    Option 1:

Is AppleCare really that coveted or should I skip it, like I do with most electronic protection plans offered?

    TIA

AppleCare is what it is. If you need it, it is great to have and they have great support. If you never need it, it is $79 down the tubes.

I had AppleCare on my iMac and my Time Capsule went kaput. There was a new one on my doorstep the next day.

Come on Lil Pun Dun... You know you need it once your Apple Product breaks and the warranty or coverage replaces it.

This plus the iPad (haven't seen anyone ”take notes" for it) would be the greatest hit.

as a bundle, the price can't be beat!

After using my Touchpad for a few weeks, I have to state that I don't miss my Ipad one bit. I love having a real browser that renders pages the way they were meant to be displayed. My only gripe with it is clicking links. It requires more finger precision than my ipad does.

You travel to the future and find out if the iPad you bought broke. lol. He's trying to say it's just insurance. If you never end up using it, you lose. Just like pretty much any insurance policy.

LOL! You all know my mind is pretty simple, right. Maybe the 1 year manufacturer's warranty will suffice. I'm going to sit on it for a while before deciding definitively. Thanks. :)
