Which was the greater movie? Battle of the sequels.. (the sci-fi topic kind stole my thunder but I have been wanting to ask)
I never really got all the T2 hype. Would love to get to see Aliens in a theater. Great popcorn movie.
aliens hands down. all the character development in the beginning and then the awesome massacre of half the cast in the span of a few minutes. priceless. and finally an ensemble cast in a sci-fi film where the characters aren't goofy stereotypes with even goofier nicknames (a la the abyss).
I just know that the first time I watched both of those movies, I was in awe, and totally consumed by the film! and once it was over, I wanted to watch it again, and again, and again...
I give the nod to Aliens just because of Hudson. Dude has to be my favorite sci-fi movie character of all time.
I love both movies but I think Aliens has aged so much better than T2. Aliens just works on so many levels not just a straight up action sequel. The extended edition is pretty sweet as well. For you bluray folks out there the 4 Alien movies hit later this year, only care about the first 2.
Aliens is a perfect action film. T2, not so much. Yeah, the extended director's cut adds some much needed dimension to Aliens. Knowing that her daughter has grown up, became older than her, and died (years ago) better informs the relationship Ripley develops with the orphan on the alien planet, and the idea of motherhood as expressed by Ripley and the Alien Queen. Also, automatic guns are cool.
Aliens by far. I agree that it has held up well and the extended cut was really nice. Terminator 2 was cool when it came out but I never loved it as much as others and now I think it is way overrated. How can a movie that ends with a "Rocky IV" esque line of "if a terminator can learn to love and be huiman, maybe we can too" kind of cheese. Aliens had the stupid little girl but throwing in the Ripley background made it more bearable. And "game over, man...game over!" and "yeah, but it's a dry heat" are way better comedic lines than "hasta la vista, baby". Both were good sequels but I also liked the originals better.
Yep. The extended edition also shows the human colony on the Alien planet, before they're overrun. Rather than an antiseptic outer space, it shares/predates the Firefly/Serenity concept of society's dregs being sent out to make inhospitable planets habitable for the rest of society. Stupid girl, but how can one not like the line reading: "They mostly come at night." [Haunting pause.] "Mostly."
It's a close call, but I'll lean toward T2. It wouldn't be as close if T2 didn't have that annoying character Furlong played.
Yeah, rewrite young John Connor and recast Furlong and T2 easily wins. But, that isn't happening, so my vote went to Aliens.
That is because people who like Aliens better are clearly smarter and more literate. T2 fans can barley string three words together so we are fortunate to be saved from repeated "me like T2" posts.
