I realize this could very well be a part of anxiety, but it's not just anxiety. It's just the walking around and the picking out of things that causes me to sweat bullets. I've done research in the past and there's virtually no hope aside from anti-anxiety pills and such. Lately, I've been reading some Zen Buddhism stuff about "letting go" , "accepting uncomfortableness", etc etc etc. I can accept some of it, but when my face looks like I just got out of a sealed-window car in 100 degree weather, it's not easy to just "let it go", lol. I probably have some sort of form of hyperhidrosis, but there's nothing aside from lame underarm prescription anti-antiperspirants. Fwiw, I do tend to wear under armour shirts and just shirts that don't show sweat much but has anyone else combated this successfully?
I'm in the same situation. I sweat a ton. I sweat when it's 5 degrees outside. My problem is when I think about it (my sweating) I sweat even more. I just learn to accept it and move on. The more you think about it, the more you sweat.
Indeed. I seriously considered bringing a mini towel when I was in the mall today. We'll see how that goes, lol.
I have systemic mastocytosis, which causes me to have extreme facial sweating/flushing amongst other things. Besides obvious triggers like embarrassment and heat, it also happens to me when I'm in deep concentration or after I have a big meal and sometimes it's seemingly completely random. I take some beta blockers, which seem to help a little, but it really comes down to just being comfortable and knowing your triggers. It's definitely a b****, but I try to make the best of it. As far as pit sweating goes, try certain-dri. You can find it at most pharmacies. It's worked really well for me. http://www.certaindri.com/Pages/CD_Home
I sweat like a dog but only when I'm working out or something. It seriously looks like I just came out of a pool.
I actually bring my little mini Rockets towel I get from the games with me. I have like 8 of those things.
if you're sweating cuz you're nervous.... well.... wait.... aren't you the same dude who can't carry a conversation over the phone? dude, are you fat? it's a serious question, my differential diagnosis tells me there might be a link in all your symptoms
I'm 5'9" 165 and if I put on 35 lbs (unless it was mostly muscle), I would consider myself overweight. Lard bucket? Perhaps not. But definitely overweight. Maybe it's something you should consider as you look for your solution. Zen's got nothing on modern pharmaceuticals. If you believe it's an anxiety condition, chemistry is the way to go.
I have a nerve condition where my body sometimes overcompensates for things... like extra sweat when it thinks its hot(even though its not) and of course even though it wasn't that bad the anxiety would kick in...especially as I wear a suit and often feel hot in it whenever I go outside. Anyways after getting diagnosed I was prescribed a drug called Probanthine which basically just dries you up. The only side effect I notice is you can get a bit of a dry mouth but water will soon fix that. Since I have taken it I have no problems at all with sweating... just make sure I take some before I do anything where it could be a problem(work etc.) and stay off it when I am doing things where I should sweat(sport and running etc.). Anyways perhaps worth asking about, I am in Australia so perhaps it will be called different elsewhere.
For one, I sweat worse than anyone I know. I can sweat when it's freezing outside. I'm about your size 5'9" and around 210 with about a 34" waiste, so there is decent amount of muscle and I'm just thick. The extra weight might cause a little bit of the sweat, but losing all the weight won't cure it. I also have social anxiety and am taking Effexor for it. I've taken Paxil and actually prefer that. If you read the side effects of these, though, they actually can cause more sweating which is a little ironic. The work to help with my anxiety, but probably only help my sweating a little bit. I've just learned to live with it. The bigest problem for me is not that I sweat, it is that it causes me to smell as well. I could deal with it if it were just sweat, I just don't like the odor. As far as going places like the mall and stuff, a hat really helps hide the head and facial sweating to some degree. I can't use this at work though.
According to Brian Ulracher, you should try "Swagger" from Old Spice. He even growls at the end of the commercial for emphasis.
Good one! off topic question: How does one "post in the wrong thread?" I see this happen a lot and wonder how it's possible. Are you multi-tasking by reading several different threads at one time? I, myself, can only read one thing at a time.
I experience this myself. It used to be real bad when I was younger, now I can deal with a lot better. The way I got over it was going to the Casinos a lot(sounds weird, but it worked). The more people I socialized with at the casinos the better I would feel about my self confidence in public. Now it rarely bothers me to go shopping or what not. I dunno the best way to deal with your problem, or how bad it is. But I do know it sucks arse and is annoying as hell. Just start going into more populated areas. The more you stay in public places, the more comfortable you'll feel.
