Surprise Wedding

Did anyone else see this train wreck of a show on Fox?

The premise: Real-life girlfriends of men with "committment issues" ambush their boyfrinds on live television.

The girls show up in wedding dresses, sporting engagement rings, hauling a preacher behind them. The guy just has to say yes. Or no.

Does anyone actually believe that the best way to entice a man into marriage is to back him into a corner in front of millions of people? Youch.

It's like watching a car accident -- gruesome and brutal -- yet I can't look away...

Yeah, women should have to rely on the old-fashioned ways of getting men to marry them - getting pregnant.

That was just mean, what those girls did to their boyfriends was simply cruel and underhanded.

    Poor, poor, poor guys. [IMG]

Are you guys kidding? Have you ever gone through the cruel male torture ordeal called a wedding? [IMG]

No cost. No planning. No "does this make me look fat" trick questions. No agony discussing how many $75 pew decorations you should have. No list of 300 invitations to make out by hand (and no, you can't just zip out labels on the computer, because it just isn't done that way). No standing through an hour long ceremony.

If you're going to get married, that's the way to go. Just show up, say yes, have a two minute ceremony by Elvis's pastor, commercial break and you're off to an all expense paid trip to Maui.

Wait a minute... The show was live? They've been promoting it for 2+ weeks... Now, how do you tell your boyfriend, "hey, come on live television -- I have a surprise for you!" and have them be surprised and not know what's going on?

No way in hell I would go on that show not knowing why I was going or what it was...

Just like the so-called real life people who go on the Jerry Springer show. Has anything good ever come out of going on that show?

It was taped, not live. Even though the previews hinted that there was a rejection, it was purposely taken out of context. Everyone said yes.

From what I heard, Fox carefully screened all of the couples, in order to avoid another Rockwell / Conger fiasco.

The couples weren't engaged, but they had all been dating for some time, and had discussed marriage, so it wasn't as if it were a total surprise. Most of the problems were either related to being burned in the past, or wanting to get on firm financial footing first. The paid for wedding / honeymoon cured most of the "committment" problems.

Yeah, but you (and they) know those people are faking it just to get some money. I'm assuming these people weren't "white trash" (no offense intended!) who were sleeping with their lesbian sisters' secret supposedly male lovers.

Only in America....do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

What the hell were you guys doing watching that show? The Rockets were on at the same time!

My wife kept wanting to switch to it during breaks in the game and, like Pimp, I think I lost a few brain cells each time too. At least she kept saying, "I never would have done this to you." I sure hope not!
