Simple question... I use the more Yankeefied "dinner" myself, even though the rest of my family uses "supper".
I used to call it supper but now dinner. I guess I made the change as I got older and lived away from my family who always called it supper.
For me, it's Breakfast, Lunch, and Supper. (I can't imagine anyone making a Biblical reference to the Last Dinner.) But my Grandmother calls it Breakfast, Dinner, and Supper. I think she does it to confuse the Yankees.
Dinner is the last meal of the day. Supper is the biggest meal of the day. Growing up, I had both supper and dinner on Sunday.
For the people that didn't pick "dinner": Do you ever have a "coke" with your "supper"? Do you exit the freeway on the "feeder road" to get to the "washateria"?
My mom says supper but it always bugged me, I guess because I don't know anyone of my generation who uses it.
Dinner-The chief meal of the day, eaten in the evening or at midday. Supper-A light evening meal when dinner is taken at midday. Dinner can be used to describe the noon meal, or the evening meal. Supper should be used to describe only the evening meal.
Damn, I had no idea Dinner would be kicking Supper's ass so badly. I guess it's not a Southern thing...
