I'm going on a business-related trip to Las Vegas for some development on the 22nd. I live in Arizona, so Vegas is not too far of a drive.

I wanted to make some tourist stops on the way back, so I have decided to get a rental car. I'm driving solo....yeaaaahhhhh( Young Jeezy voice)

I don't want to spend a great deal, but I also don't want to be driving something where I'm smashed against the steering wheel like Rapsutia from Norbit.

What model/make would you all suggest from personal experience? There are some decent deals on Impalas and a Malibu.

I'm not really knowledgeable about cars, so I thought I would go to the most intelligent group of people I read from on a daily basis :).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

As someone who has driven many types of cars and trucks, I don't think it really matters. You get used to it in minutes...so just get the next step or two up from smallest and you should be fine. Even the smallest is fine, but I just don't like driving the smallest car on the road.

Book a full-size. That could be a Charger, Malibu, Impala, Mazda 6, Sonata or Altima.

A lot of times there isn't much of a difference in price between the smallest and the full size. It's when you get into premium vehicles, sports cars and large SUV's that prices tend to sky-rocket. Cars are generally much cheaper if you rent them away from the airport, and if you have a Costco membership, they often have good deals through their website on rent cars.

As an aside, Southern Utah has some amazing national parks that are worth seeing.

What are the tourist stops between Vegas and your house? Hoover Dam, Route 66, and Grand Canyon? I agree that Southern Utah (like Zion) is great, but that could be a huge detour.

Drove one of these from Reno to Lake Tahoe. Of course, I wasn't alone....and had snowboards and gear in the car.

    If you're alone....get a sports coupe of some type...like a mustang.

Whatever car you rent, when you check out, be meticulous with making notes of dings or other problems with the car. You don't want to be charged with repair for something you didn't cause when you return the car.

Usually I book a standard or see where the jump up in price is between the classes of cars. Most of times when you get there they will give you a free upgrade if they don't have the standard or the one you got or give a much higher car for just a little bit more.

The last time I went we got the cheapest one available reserved and when we got there we got upgraded to a G37 for only 10 bucks more a day instead of the $50.00 more a day it was online for the same car. In person they will always try to up sell you and you can negotiate.

Whatever you get make sure the satellite radio subscription has not expired. I'd rather a medium size car with satellite radio than a large car without.

My fav is the jeep liberty.
